The Deutscher Jugendliteraturpreis is an award donated since 1956 by the Federal Ministry for family, seniors, women and youth and presented annually (before 1981 the price was called "Deutscher Jugendbuchpreis"). Outstanding works of the child and youth literature are distinguished. It is organized by the registered association called "Arbeitsgruppe für Jugendliteratur" (transl. working group for youth literature). The winners receive, apart from prize money, a bronze plastics, which is copied from Michael Ende's novel figure Momo. During the 2005 award ceremony of the prize of "Deutscher Literaturpreis" (transl. the German literary award), Harry Rowohlt received the special lifetime award for his complete work as a German translator, endowed with 10.000 Euro. For each of the categories picture, child, youth and non-fiction book a price valued 8.000 Euro was presented. The jury selected the picture book Han Gan und das Wunderpferd by Chen Jianghong. Winner in the category children book was Kurzhosengang of the fictitious authors Victor Caspak and Yves Lanois. The prize for the best youth book received the Polish author Dorota Maslowska for Schneeweiß und Russenrot. The award for the non-fiction category was presented to Anne Möller for Nester bauen, Höhlen knabbern. The prize of the jury, whose members are young people themselves, also valued 8,000 Euro, was awarded to British author Graham Gardner. Previous winners include another British author, Philip Ardagh for Schlimmes End, the German version of his best-seller Awful End (featuring Eddie Dickens). This was translated into German by the aforementioned Harry Rowohlt.
