Detroit rock

Detroit rock is the name for a style of Australian indie rock, particularly popular in Sydney, Australia in the 1980s. The name comes from the city of Detroit in the United States, which was home to the hard rock/proto-punk sound of The Stooges and MC5. These bands were among tne strongest influences on Sydney indie bands in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
The style was popularised and also heavily influenced by Radio Birdman, who formed in Sydney but were led by Deniz Tek, a Detroit native.
