Despite Straight Lines is the debut album by British New Wave musician Marilyn, released in 1985 (see 1985 in music). Marilyn (born Peter Robinson), is a close friend and associate of Boy George from Culture Club. Unlike Culture Club, Marilyn's recordings were more closely aligned with electronic dance and Hi-NRG music rather than the former's reggae-flavoured pop. The album Despite Straight Lines rode on the success of the worldwide hit single "Calling Your Name" and achieved moderate sale figures. Marilyn's follow-up album in 1986 was to be recorded in the United States with Don Was as producer, however legal and financial problems stymied the project.
