Stardock's Desktop Pet is a digital pet that lives on the desktop of Windows-based computers. It was released on 13 December 2005.
The pet has an animated, 3D form. Its motion and actions are controlled by a relatively simple chemical-based motivation system implemented in VBScript on the DesktopX platform. Primary drives include hunger, boredom, sleepiness, illness, and waste removal. It is accompanied by various toys and equipment to satisfy these drives, which can also be moved around on the desktop.
Notably, The pet looks like a very close approximation of a mogwai from the Gremlins series.
