Deshpande is a common surname in the states of Maharashtra and Karnataka, India. The surname indicates the family is of Hindu Brahmin or CKP,(Chandraseniya Kayastha Prabhu) origin. It derives from the Marathi title dešpande, or ‘district accountant’, formerly a hereditary office, and can be derived from the Sanskrit terms deša ‘country’, ‘district’ and pandita ‘learned man’.
