Desert Coral

Desert Coral (Japanese: デザート・コーラル) is a manga series by Wataru Murayama. Desert Coral has been published in three languages: Japanese, English, and German. Currently, there is five volumes in Japanese, three volumes in English and one volume in German.

The manga takes place on a fantasy world of Orgos. The main character, Naoto is a visitor to this world.

It is unlikely that new volumes will be created. The last, and fifth Japanese volume was released 2004-05. The third was released into English on 2004-11-23. Judging by the interval that has passed between these volumes and the present, its unlikely any more will be either written or translated. For mysterious reasons known only to ADV and the publishers.

Naoto Saki has an imgination so far-reaching that he has found an entire world within his daydreams. He dreams of a fantasy world when he sleeps, a land of barren and marvelous creatures. One day, his elaborate reverie becomes reality when he is magically summoned into the very world of which he dreams. Suddenly, a boy's fancies are transformed into panic, as Naoto is caught in a bloody battle between the Elphis and the Sand Dusts. He can feel pain in this word and experiences real danger! Returning home is his only wish, but the beautiful sorceress who summoned him has other plans...

What dreams may come for young Naoto? When the real world becomes tiresome, Naoto finds himself engrossed in the dream-world of Orgos. But pleasantries soon become nightmarish when Camu finds escape in dangerous behavior, and Lusia tires hard not to succumb to the deadly calling of the Lucavifate - a voice that desires she do the unthinkable. Reality catches up with Naoto as he continues his study of sorcery - will his novice abilities be enough to keep the battle between the Elphis and the Sand Dusts within his grasp? In a world where fantasy and reality interwine, Naoto must awaken to the fire within, and only then can he hope to survive the waking-dream that is Desert Coral.

Naoto may be a stranger in the already strange world of Orgos, but that doesn't mean he's welcome! As his training continues, Naoto has gradually learned to wield the awesome power of the Flame Spirit that he and Lusia share. While danger lurks in every nook and cranny of Orgos, Naoto's time spent with Desert Coral has given him strength he didn't know he possessed. Stranger things are to come when a mysterious sense of déjà vu strikes Naoto, that the world of Orgos seems almost too familiar. With recalled memories of once forgotten people and places, he will be faced with a difficult choice, but will his decision assure his destiny? Only the sands of time can answer that question, as Naoto continues his quest for answers in Desert Coral.
