Des Hasler was a Rugby League player during the 1980's and early 1990's. He began his first grade career with the Penrith Panthers in 1984 but quicky transferred to the Manly Sea Eagles. During the next decade Hasler established himself as a star utility player, playing for Australia in twelve test matches. At the end of the 1993 season Hasler decided to play for Hull FC in the Super League. Hasler returned however for one last stint with Manly in the 1995 season.

In 2004 Des Hasler was appointed head coach of the Manly Sea Eagles. He has led them to moderate success which included a semi-final in 2006.
