Connolly played at U-21 hurling level for Dublin in 2006. He came on as a substitute in the Leinster U-21 championship final against Kilkenny and scored a goal in Dublin's ill-fated revival.

Dermot Connolly played at minor level for Dublin in 2005 in the Leinster final. Dublin lost the game to Laois by a scoreline of 3-08 to 1-07 with Connolly scoring 1-03 of Dublin's total score.

2006 has a very successful season for Connolly with St Vincents. Dermot was the top scorer for the St Vincents senior hurling team that made it to the semi final of the senior hurling championship. St Vincents lost the semi final to Ballyboden St Endas with Connolly scoring a total of 1-03. In honour of Connolly's hurling performances in 2006, he was named on the 2006 Dublin Bus/Evening Herald Blue Star hurling XV.[1]

In 2006, Connolly has performed consistently well for St Vincents who have qualified for the Dublin senior club football championship final against UCD. Connolly scored a total of 0-05 points in the semi final of the championship against Na Fianna.[2] Connolly has scored a total of 3-16 (0-3f) in the Dublin Senior Football Championship so far this year. Connolly was named on the 2006 Dublin Bus/Evening Herald Blue Star football XV at right half-forward.[3]
