Derek Watkins (musician)

Derek Watkins is a British session musician and jazz trumpet player who can be heard on hundreds of albums and film soundtracks. He is best-known for his role as lead trumpet on all the James Bond films, including the renowned "squealers" - high notes - on the theme to Goldfinger. His session work has included contributions to albums by The Beatles, Robbie Williams, Elton John, Eric Clapton, Kylie Minogue, Oasis, Tom Jones, Maynard Ferguson, Leonard Bernstein, James Last and many more. He is also a current member of the BBC Big Band.
He is well known for a big sound, exemplary range, and commanding presence. On a session he takes control of the brass section, and is every British session player's hero.
