Derek Twigg

John Derek Twigg (born 9 July 1959, Widnes) is a politician in the United Kingdom. He is Labour Member of Parliament for Halton, and was first elected in 1997. From May 2005 until the 6 September 2006 he was Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Transport. With the resignation of Tom Watson he was appointed Parliamentary Under Secretary of State and Minister for Veterans at the Ministry of Defence [1]
Between 2002 and 2004 he served as a whip. On the 16 December 2004, in the reshuffle following the resignation of David Blunkett, he was appointed junior education minister in the Department for Education and Skills
In the cabinet reshuffle following the United Kingdom general election of 2005, Derek became a junior minister in the Department for Transport.
