Der junge Lord

Der junge Lord (The Young Lord) is an opera in two acts by Hans Werner Henze to an German libretto by Ingeborg Bachmann after Wilhelm Hauff's Der Affe als Mensch from Der Scheik von Alexandria und seine Sklaven.
The opera, which was commissioned by the Deutsche Oper, Berlin, and written by Henze in Italy, owes much to Italian opera buffa.

It was first performed at the Deutsche Oper, Berlin on 7 April 1965. It was also produced at the Santa Fe Opera in 1967.
