Deployments of the French military

The military of France has several deployments throughout the world. Currently, France has about 36,000 troops deployed abroad: 23,000 of these troops act as sovereign forces while the other 13,000 are part of peacekeeping operations under international or defense agreements.

• Chad - 1,000

In Asia:

• Afghanistan - 1,870
• Lebanon - 2,000

In South America:

• French Guiana - 3,380

In the Indian Ocean:

• Réunion - 4,060 including a flotilla of the French Navy

In the Pacific Ocean:

• New Caledonia - 2,700
• French Polynesia - 2,400

In the Caribbean Sea:

• Antilles - 4,300
