The Department of Applied Physics was established in the year of 1925, under University of Calcutta for post graduate study in Electrical Technology and Allied Sciences. Presently three major areas of studies are being conducted in the department, namely Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Optics & Opto-electronics. This is one of the leading technical institutions in India. From the very first day the department contributing towards industrial development and various research activities across the globe.

Alumni from this department have been effectively working all over India and abroad and continuously contributing towards technological development. Applied Physics Alumni Association is very famous within the University of Calcutta for their various good works and culture. The occasion where most of the alumni and current students meet is the annual ritual of Reunion. Recently a full-fledged website has been launched for this Alumni Association ([1]).
