Densetsu no Stafy 4 (伝説のスタフィー4), alternately known as Densetsu no Starfi 4 or Densetsu no Stafi 4 (see name controversy), is a platforming video game developed by TOSE and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo DS. It is the fourth game in the Densetsu no Stafy series, which first started on the Game Boy Advance.

The Densetsu no Stafy series is the only franchise that TOSE owns the copyright for, although Nintendo owns the copyright as well.

[edit] Summary

As with the other games in the series, Densetsu no Stafy 4 features Stafy as the main character. He is joined by his sister Stapy and his friend Kyorosuke the clam. The three of them help out other undersea creatures and fights numerous villains.

[edit] Game details

Gameplay in Densetsu no Stafy 4 is very similar to that of the Kirby series.[citation needed] New features were added in this game that make use of the Nintendo DS' advanced hardware. The visuals are still 2-D, albeit with completely redrawn sprites, while the backgrounds are 3-D. Densetsu no Stafy 4 takes advantage of the dual screens, using them to show both the main game and map of the level simultaneously, while it uses the touchscreen to activate special abilities and navigate menus. The costume collection from Densetsu no Stafy 3 returns in fully rendered 3-D, which allows the player to manipulate the 3D models of Stafy and Stapy to see more of their costumes.

[edit] Trivia

  • Nintendo created a costume contest, and gave fans a picture of Stafy (in PDF format) to draw a costume onto Stafy and send in. Select costumes were chosen and added to the Densetsu no Stafy 4 costume collection. The winning costumes also appear on the official Densetsu no Stafy 4 website.
  • The J-pop group °C-ute recorded a song about Stafy to promote Densetsu no Stafy 4.
