It is run jointly by the Literary and Historical Society, University College Dublin, the College Historical Society Trinity College Dublin, The Literary & Debating Society (National University of Ireland, Galway) and the UCC Philosophical Society. The competition offers students, through its three regional rounds, an excellent chance to develop their communication, analytical and interpersonal skills, while also having some fun along the way. It has become an integral part of the Irish education system, with many schools preparing arguments as a group exercise in class. This year's was the 22nd and largest ever competition, with 720 participants competiting from schools across the country.
