Sargent was first introduced to mythology and magick during his early teens in New York City. He has over the years been a member of a number of initiatory groups including Pagan Way, Welsh Traditional Wicca, the Grove of the Star & Serpent, Ordo Templi Orientis, and Q.B.L.H.[1]

He received his B.A. in Education in 1979 from Oneonta College in New York, and his M.A. in Ancient History from Western Washington University in 1981, where he also taught history for three years. His research has included the magical and religious traditions of Sumer, Egypt, Greece, Rome, China, India, Europe and the Kwakiutl Indians of the Pacific Northwest.

Beginning in the 1980s, Tantra and Taoism began to form an increasingly important role in his studies and writings. He has taught informal classes on the I Ching, Tantra, Jungian mandala symbolism, comparative mythology and, more recently, Shinto. Denny has lived in Japan and travelled extensively in Australia, China, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Korea, Hawaii, Mexico, and Thailand. A book resulted from this research: Global Ritualism: Myth & Magick Around the World.

Sargent is also a ceramic artist and sigil artist. Over the last 20 years, he has ad many one-man and group shows of his ceramic work, and his sigils have appeared in a wide variety of esoteric magazines and journals.[2]

In the 1990ties, Sargent taught English as a Second Language (ESL) at language schools in Japan and in Seattle.
