Denmark national football team season 2006

In 2006 the Denmark national football team have nine matches scheduled. Three of these matches will be 2008 European Football Championship Group F-qualification matches.

[edit] Israel vs. Denmark
On 2006-03-01, Denmark played a friendly match against Israel in Ramat Gan, Israel at Ramat Gan Stadium. Denmark won the match 2-0. In the build-up to the game a number of players, including captain Thomas Helveg and vice-captain Jon Dahl Tomasson were unavailable due to injury, which allowed several fresh faces in the team, and the role of team captain was passed on to Thomas Gravesen.
The game opened with debutant Lars Jacobsen on right back, and Kenneth Perez opened the score to 1-0 in the 7th minute, and ten minutes later Morten Skoubo scored his first national team goal for a 2-0 lead. In the break, Niclas Jensen was substituted for Brian Priske, and from the 69th minute forward, a further five players were brought on as substitutes, including debutant Nicolai Stokholm, but no goals were scored for the remainder of the game. The only Danish player not active in the match was backup keeper Jesper Christiansen[1].

On 2006-05-27, Denmark played a friendly match against Paraguay at NRGi Park in Aarhus, Denmark. This match was the first Denmark home match, played outside Parken Stadium, Copenhagen since 1992. The match ended 1-1. Denmark did without eg. Daniel Agger and Thomas Kahlenberg, when they were playing for the U-21 team at the UEFA U-21 C'ships. A number of the players, who was selected for the game, including goalkeeper Thomas Sørensen, had to scratch, because of injuries.
The game opened with debutant Bo Svensson as center defender, but after a big fault the other central defender, captain Thomas Helveg, Paraguay's José Cardozo scored for 1-0 in the 20th minute. 6 minutes into 2nd half scored the vice-captain Jon Dahl Tomasson his 39th Denmark-goal. In the half-time break, clubless Christian Poulsen was substituted for Daniel Jensen, and from the 67th minute forward, a further four players were brought on as substitutes. Five Danish subs where not in use, including Anders Due and Thomas Augustinussen, who never has played a A-national match[2].

On 2006-05-31, Denmark played a friendly match against France at Stade Félix Bollaert in Lens, France. The matches ended with a 2-0 defeat, where there was 4 changes in the lineup proportional to the Paraguay-match: Jesper Grønkjær was injured at the training, and he was replaced with Michael Silberbauer - Morten Skoubo, Bo Svensson & Lars Jacobsen was benched, and they were subtituted by Daniel Jensen, Per Krøldrup & Brian Priske. The game was captain Thomas Helveg's match no. 100 for the Danish national team.
The Frenchmen's first was scored by Thierry Henry in the 12th minute. Denmark played well, but couldn't come to the big chances and didn't score a goal, but in the 75th minute, Jan Kristiansen made a small penalty on Franck Ribéry, and Sylvain Wiltord scored on the penalty. Morten Olsen made only 4 substitutions, and neither this time there was debut to Anders Due and Thomas Augustinussen[3].

On 2006-08-16, Denmark played a friendly match against Poland at Fionia Park in Odense. The matches ended with a 2-0 win, where there was 9 changes in the lineup proportional to the France-match: Michael Silberbauer was not selected for the squad, and he was replaced with Dennis Rommedahl - 5 players was benched. Christian Poulsen, Daniel Jensen and Jon Dahl Tomasson were injuried.
The first goal was scored by debutant Nicklas Bendtner in the 32nd minute after a assist from Thomas Gravesen. In the 63rd minute Dennis Rommedahl scored to 2-0. Morten Olsen made 5 subtitutions, and in the 67th minute, there was debut to Mads Junker[4].

On 2006-09-01, Denmark played a friendly match against Portugal at Brøndby Stadium near Copenhagen. The match ended with a 4-2 win, where the only change in the lineup proportional to the Poland-match, was Jon Dahl Tomasson started instead of Nicklas Bendtner.
The first goal was scored by captain Jon Dahl Tomasson in the 14th minute after a assist from Dennis Rommedahl. Only two minutes later Ricardo Carvalho made it 1-1, but in the 21st minute Thomas Kahlenberg scored his first national goal to 2-1. In the 58th minute Cristiano Ronaldo got a penalty shootout, which he shot himself, but Thomas Sørensen saved. Seven minutes later, Nani scored direct on a corner to 2-2. In the 77th minute Martin Jørgensen made it 3-2, and in the extra time, Nicklas Bendtner ran contra against the keeper, and scored to 4-2. Morten Olsen made all 6 subtitutions[5].

On 2006-09-06, Denmark played an Euro 2008 qualification match against Iceland at Laugardalsvöllur in Reykjavík. The match ended with a 2-0 win for Denmark, where the only two changes in the lineup proportional to the Portugal-match, was Jan Kristiansen started instead of Niclas Jensen, and Christian Poulsen startes instead of Rasmus Würtz. It appeared that this match were Thomas Gravesen's last one for Denmark, when he on 2006-09-15 said he stopped.
The first goal was scored by Dennis Rommedahl after just 5 minutes. In the 33rd minute Thomas Gravesen shot a very long, perfect pass to Dennis Rommedahl, who easy passed further to captain Jon Dahl Tomasson, but made it 2-0 on this contra. Morten Olsen made all 3 subtitutions[6].

The match ended with a 0-0 draw, where the only three changes in the lineup proportional to the Iceland-match, was Niclas Jensen started instead of Jan Kristiansen, Daniel Jensen startes instead of Thomas Gravesen, and Peter Løvenkrands started instead of the injured Dennis Rommedahl[7].

On 2006-10-11, Denmark will play an Euro 2008 qualification match against Liechtenstein at Rheinpark Stadion in Vaduz, Liechtenstein. The match ended with a 4-0 win for Denmark, where the only two changes in the lineup proportional to the Northern Ireland-match, was Jesper Christiansen started instead of injured keeper Thomas Sørensen, and Dennis Rommedahl startes instead of Peter Løvenkrands.
The first goal was scored by Daniel Jensen after 29 minutes. Only two minutes later Michael Gravgaard made 2-0 on a header. 4 minutes after second half began, Jon Dahl Tomasson scored a super goal on a overhead kick. Jon Dahl scored again in the 64th minute. Morten Olsen made all 3 subtitutions, hereby two debutants - Dennis Sørensen and Michael Krohn-Dehli - came on pitch in second half.[8].

On 2006-11-15, Denmark will play an friendly match against the Czech Republic at Toyota Arena in Prague, Czech Republic. The match ended with a 1-1 draw, where there were seven changes in the lineup proportional to the Liechtenstein-match, hereby that Jonas Kamper got debut.
The Danish goal was scored by Peter Løvenkrands in the 28th minute, after he had wrong-footed to Czechs. In the extra time Daniel Jensen burned a penalty shot. Afterwards Milan Baroš scored to the result 1-1 on a header. Morten Olsen made all 6 subtitutions, hereby two debutants - Mikkel Thygesen and Jesper Bech - came on pitch in second half[9].
