Denise Chavez

Denise Chavez is a very famous author, play-writer, and director in Mexico. She is Spanish and was born in La Cruces, New Mexico on August 15th, 1948. She graduated from Madonna High School in Mesillo. After that, she continued on to Trinity University to get her Master's and Bachelor's degree in drama. When she graduated from college, she worked in Dallas Theater Center while continueing her studies in drama and writing. Then she went to the University of New Mexico and graduated with a MFA in writing. In 1986, she published her first collection of short stories, called the Last of the Menu Girls. She received several awards, including the American Book Award, the Premio Axltan Award, and the Mesilla Valley Author of the Year Award. Now Denise Chavez works in New Mexico State University. She is now publishing her third novel, Loving Pedro Infante.
