Den-Lou, Ontario
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Den/Lou is a community in the Canadian city of Greater Sudbury, Ontario.
Although the area is considered part of the Whitefish telephone exchange and postal delivery area, residents of the area generally consider it a separate community to itself. The town's name comes from combining the names of two distinct geographic townships, Dennison and Louise.
The community is located along Highway 17, immediately west of the end of the highway's freeway segment. Currently, the Ontario Ministry of Transportation is undergoing discussion in regards to extending the divided highway through Den/Lou. If this plan is implemented, sites such as the Den/Lou School, today known as the Den/Lou playground, will be in jeopardy.
From 1973 to 2000, Den/Lou was part of the town of Walden, Ontario, in the Regional Municipality of Sudbury. On January 1, 2001, the Regional Municipality was dissolved into the single-tier city of Greater Sudbury.
