[edit] Greek-Turkish placenames

Demonax, do me one favour, please don't start removing foreign placenames. I'm assuming you are a genuine new user, so you might not know, but this field has been one of an inordinate amount of silly revert-warring, so please don't inflame it again. See Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Greek and Turkish named places) for starters of what the debate is about. Fut.Perf. 23:49, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

I can only repeat my request from yesterday. Other users have been banned in the past over revert-warring on these naming issues, and people might suspect you of being a sockpuppet of theirs, which might get you blocked too.
On a different note, you might want to consider if you really want your e-mail address on your user page, as it will attract spam very quickly. If you want, I can delete the page for you so you can get rid of it. Fut.Perf. 14:17, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

Why must the Turkish names be on places where there are no Turks? In places where there are, for example Komotini, I have no objection. What should I do to remove them and not get blockaded?

About the e-mail address, it has to be there so people can know to contact me. I replaced the @ with an . I think that solves the spam problem.

Wikipedia is supposed to be run on the basis of consensus - which in this case currently means, a rather delicate equilibrium of checks and balances between "inclusionist" and "exclusionist" opinions on both the Greek and the Turkish side. If you feel strongly that you must change the status quo, then I think the only legitimate way of doing so without risking all-out edit wars again, would be to try and revive that discussion page I quoted, to finally get a true consensus in place.
It would also help if you could clarify who you are - seeing your familiarity with Wiki technicalities, I strongly doubt you are a new user.
(As for the e-mail address, I really believe you know how the e-mail technique works. If not: Go to "my preferences" and set your e-mail address to enabled, that way people will be able to reach you without you having to disclose the address.

Please also check out the Three-reverts rule, in case you haven't already. Fut.Perf. 15:03, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

Your request to be unblocked has been granted for the following reason(s):

This was entirely my error and I sincerely apologize, I will explain below

Request handled by:  Glen  16:42, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi, just saw this on coming back to my computer and was about to say I'd investigate it myself, Glen beat me to it by a second... :) Fut.Perf. 16:49, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] How it happened

Basically, I was monitoring vandalism within our vandalism channel and it just so happened that at the same time we got hit by a page moving vandal I received the following alerts: (these actually beep me and come up especially in bold... and they came up EXACTLY like this:

So, I quickly came to your page, saw that there were users, including an administrator warning you about 3RR, looked at your Europe edits - saw the first four were the same; presumed since the bots had said you were being reverted 7 times that this was it and acted - stupidly.

And I sincerely apologise (if I helps I've been blocked accidently too :) - oh, and dont worry about those alerts as they happen all the time in content disputes, to all of us. It was my haste due to a real vandal that I mucked up.

Thanks again  Glen  16:59, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

Huh! That list looks really scary! ;-)
My apologies too, insofar as my warnings above contributed to the misunderstanding. - But take it as a cautioning signal, those island name disputes are "hot" and should definitely be solved by discussion and not unilateral edits, okay? - Fut.Perf. 17:31, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

I have discussed this before with you and you gave no explanation why the foreign names should be there. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Demonax (talkcontribs).

Ah, so I take that as a confirmation that you are in fact Mywayyy? Okay, thanks for clarifying. Indef-blocked. Fut.Perf. 22:47, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Three-revert rule

Please refrain from undoing other people's edits repeatedly. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia under the three-revert rule. Rather than reverting, discuss disputed changes on the talk page. The revision you want is not going to be implemented by edit warring. Thank you. Khoikhoi 19:37, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] User notice: temporary 3RR block

[edit] Regarding reversions[1] made on November 9, 2006 to Chios

You have been temporarily blocked for violation of the three-revert rule. Please feel free to return after the block expires, but also please make an effort to discuss your changes further in the future.
The duration of the block is 24 hours. William M. Connolley 22:23, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Indef-blocked as sockpuppet

As per self-confirmation above ([2]).

What you talking about, who is Mywayyy? What self-confirmation? I was referring to my position as stated at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Demonax#Greek-Turkish_placenames and you did not even try to explain why it was wrong or anything. Please unblock me now or I will take this to the highest level.

{{unblock|I have been blocked under false pretences as being a "sockpuppet" of someone called Mywayyy. Can someone neutral please intervene}}

Well, okay, I'll go on "assume good faith" and take it you were in fact only referring to that discussion. Resetting block to that set by William. Hang on a moment, I'll explain further. Fut.Perf. 23:35, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
Okay, I'll explain. When you first discussed that issue, I did in fact explain my position to you, by pointing you to that discussion page. So, when you later said "I discussed this with you earlier", I took it you were referring to earlier discussions this guy Mywayyy used to have with me and others. He used to revert these pages in the same way as you did today, up to the point where he was indefinitely banned.
So, upshot is, I'm still not convinced you aren't him, but for now I'll take your word for it. And I'll repeat my warning, very seriously, that more edit-warring in this way will not be tolerated. Come back after this 24-hour block expires, and then try to build a consensus with the other editors, don't resume these reverts. Okay?
Fut.Perf. 23:44, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

Dankeschon, ich verstehe.
