Demron
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Demron™ is a radiation blocking fabric made by Radiation Shield Technologies (RST). The material is said to have radiation blocking abilities similar to lead, while being lightweight and flexible. Although the composition of Demron is currently secret, a BBC News article from 2002 states that it is a non-toxic polymer.[1] Although Demron itself only shields the wearer from radiation, it can be coupled with conventional materials to block chemical and biological threats as well, and RST sells such a suit on their website.[2] A Demron vest is roughly $660 USD [3], whereas an economy lead apron is about $125 USD [4]. In applications where a lead apron suffices, such as radiology, the price difference makes it difficult for Demron to compete.
