Demon Sorcerers

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Demon Sorcerers are a group of fictional villains from the Jackie Chan Adventures TV series.

They each represent a different element: Fire, Water, Sky, Moon, Earth, Mountain, Wind and Thunder. Seven of the demon sorcerers were banished to the Demon Netherworld by seven of the Eight Immortals, the ancient heroes of China. The eighth demon, and the first Demon Sorcerer to appear in the show, although it was unknown at the time, was Shendu of Fire. Rather than banished, the eighth Immortal transformed him into a magical statue, since if all of the demons were permanantely defeated a new evil might take their place. Later, in season 2, Shendu sets out to free his brethren from the Netherworld. Despite the use of the Pan Ku Box and then the Book of Ages, he is unsuccessful. Shendu continues to be a recurring character, while the other Demons appear only in slightly altered form after someone absorbs their Demon Chi. Drago, Shendu's son, is considered a junior Demon Sorcerer.

[edit] Tchang Zu

Immortal Item: Castenets

Portal Location: Hollywood, Los Angeles, USA.

Voice Actor: Frank Welker

The Demon Sorcerer of Thunder, He was banished by the Immortal Cao Guojiu. Tchang Zu's portal is located in Hollywood California. It is, ironically, contained within a door on a movie studio lot, and the Immortal who defeated him was known as an actor. After Tchang Zu's release, he sought to reclaim his palace, only to find it had been paved over into a parking lot. He then attempted to claim the Chinese Theater for his abode, but was banished again by the Chans. Tchang Zu later confronted the J-Team in Demon World, Part 2 atop Hsi Wu's tower, but was banished thanks to Paco, who happened to have a pair of castanets. The Immortal castanet containing traces of the Thunder Demon Chi was found aboard the Oceanic, a sunken ship. It was claimed by Drago, who took over the Space Needle for access to its storms, which could enhance the Thunder powers, but it was removed by Uncle. Drago absorbed the Chi later with the rest of the Demon Chi, and traces of it were invested in his cronies. It is interesting to note that Tchang Zu has no dialogue in either of the two parts of Demon World, whereas all the other Demons did.

In the game version of Jackie Chan Adventures, Tchang Zu is the fifth demon to be released. His portal is in the Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. After Jackie finds the Snake Talisman in a local museum, Tchang Zu is released. In the fight against him, Jackie uses the Dragon Talisman to defeat him, before Uncle appears and seals his portal forever.

Using a drum found at the site, the Chans then banished her once more. Po Kong appeared in Demon World, Part 2, and attempted to devour Jackie again. However, Tohru was enslaved in her domain, and aided the Chans by banging on a nearby drum to banish her. Po Kong's Chi was located in the Canadian city, Quebec, within a pair of chopsticks, made from the Immortal drumsticks that banished Po Kong. Tohru accidentally absorbed the Chi when he used the chopsticks to eat a midnight snack of pork fried rice. Drago managed to very briefly absorb the Chi, but it was drained from him along with his own. But was later reabsorbed with the rest of the Demon Chi in the final confrontation with Drago.

In the video game, Po Kong is the first demon to be released by Shendu. Jackie journeys to a Japanese castle to find the Sheep and Tiger Talismans. When entering a giant courtyard, Jackie collides with the Dark Hand who unleash Po Kong (she squashes the Dark Hand when she falls out of her portal). In the following battle, Po Kong can fire heat beams from her eyes and create shockwaves when rolling across the ground. Jackie knocks Po Kong down with some cannons and Uncle appears and banishes Po Kong.

Xiao Fung disguised himself, and escaped into the tunnels beneath the prison. After a pitched battle, he was banished again. He appeared in the Demon World episodes, and forced El Toro Fuerte and another wrestler to battle gladitorially. He was banished by, ironically, the fan his servant Paco was using to fan him. His demon Chi was found at a local Car Wash and was accidentally absorbed by Jade, turning her bad burping habits into major windstorms. Drago managed to temporarily absorb the Chi, but it was drained again. Drago was later was able to absorb it with the rest of the Demon Chi in the final battle. Traces of it were infused within Drago's minions when he sent them to destroy Section 13.

In the video game, Xiao Fung is the second demon to be released. His portal is on Alcatraz Island, in some secret underground caverns. However, he later revealed himself, and kidnapped Uncle so he would remove the Chi spell he'd placed on the tail. Thanks to the efforts of the Chans (particuly Jade who was armed with the Tiger, Rooster, and Rabbit Talismans), he was banished again. In the Demon World duology, Hsi Wu had Viper as his prisoner. However, he was banished without even the chance to put up a fight. His demon chi was located within an Australian merry-go-round. Because of Jade's foolishness and the inability to remove the Chi from the Chi-O-Matic, the Sky Demon Chi was absorbed by Jade's teacher. After several fights with Drago, the Chi was removed. Later on it was absorbed by Drago along with the rest of the Demon Chi.

In the video game, Jade is kidnapped by Valmont and taken to the Fenway Park. Jackie arrives and Valmont-Shendu release Hsi Wu. Hsi Wu, for unknown reasons, attacks Jade with laserbeams. Jackie saves Jade by defeating Hsi Wu with a baseball firing turret. Uncle appears and banishes Hsi Wu.

He planned to pull it out of its orbit, wrecking Earth's landscapes and adapting them to his liking. He was defeated, and banished with a lotus pod in Jackie's space suit. In the Demon World saga, Tso Lan was one of the final four Demons left unbanished to challenge the J-Team. He fought El Toro, and managed to defeat him. However, he was banished with the rest. His demon Chi was located in a lotus pod in a zoo habitat, and briefly absorbed by a Panda. He was one of the final four to challenge the J-Team, and battled Tohru. He was banished, but his Demon Chi surfaced inside of a flower. Jackie later absorbed the Chi in order to do battle with a Moon-powered Drago. The Chi was removed from Jackie just after Uncle places the Moon Chi in the Containment Unit.
