Demoiselle Creek, New Brunswick
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Community of Demoiselle Creek is a civil division of the Hopewell Parish, Albert County. It gets its name from the creek that runs through it. The area contains on average less then fifty people. Of these fifty people none have any great skill with the French language. Demoiselle Creek is bordered by the communities of Curryville and Albert Mines. The population either works in nearby communities and towns or is retired. There is a decaying baseball field, but it has not seen recent usage.
[edit] History
The community was originally called Cape Demoiselle(or one of about 6 veriants) and covered an area of approximately 4 square miles. The actual geographic Cape Demoiselle was renamed Hopewell Cape. The name "Demoiselle" means "little girl" in French. It was named by a ship's captain for a rock formation that resembled a young women's figure. Like many small communities, Demoiselle has lost a lot of its history. It can be assumed from the name that Demoiselle Creek was once a french community, however records are not clear.[citation needed]
