Democratic Party of Illinois

The Democratic Party of Illinois is a political party and affiliate of the United States Democratic Party in Illinois. The party has been extremely succesful in statewide elections for the past decade. This party currently holds a strong majority in both the Illinois Senate and Illinois House of Representatives. Beginning in 2006, the Democrats will be in control of all statewide offices. The Governor of Illinois, Rod Blagojevich, and Illinois' two Senators, Dick Durbin and Barack Obama are members of this party.
The party is one of only three legally established, statewide political parties in Illinois, in addition to the Green and Republican parties.
Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan is the current Chairman of the Democratic Party of Illinois.
