Demetria
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Demetria is a fictional planet, situated in CrossGen's Sigilverse. It lies in the "Bleak Zone," on the edges of the Sigilverse's main galaxy, where the universal energies are at their weakest. At some point in the history of the planet, a great cataclysm caused large sections of the ground to fly up into the sky, becoming floating islands, suspended in the air by the mysterious anti-gravity properties of a certain type of ore. These islands each became city-states, most ruled by Ministers, with power and responsibility little different from that of a monarch, while those areas of the surface that remained settled seem to consist primarily of mines, logging operations and the like, more industrial or mercantile than residential or political. Most, if not all, of the communities of Demetria operate on a technology level approximately equivalent to that of the Renaissance in real history. Trade and travel are accomplished primarily through flying ships, built by the expert ship-builders of the island city-state of Meridian.
The islands & surface communities include:
- Akasia
- Cadador - an industrial and economic center
- Meridian - the shipbuilders' city
- Nescoan - city of carriagemakers
- Ring City - home of bookbinders
- Torbel - the ironworkers' city
- Vylund - where lawyers are taught and tested
Demetria has been seen in the following titles:
- Meridian
- Solus
- Sigil
- Negation War
- CrossGen Chronicles
