Delta Squad
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Delta Squad is the designation for a group of elite clone commandos, who were featured in the computer game Star Wars: Republic Commando, the novel Republic Commando: Triple Zero, and recently added into the Star Wars Miniatures game with the latest set. The group consists of four enhanced clones of bounty hunter Jango Fett, who have been specially trained for more covert missions such as espionage, assassination and infiltration. Each member has a distinct personality, regardless of their identical DNA, which allows for specialization amongst the group. They are designated 'Republic Commando' followed by a serial number (RC-****) and are often called by their last two digits. However each has excelled in a certain field, which has formed their identity and led to their adopting nicknames. This was able to meld them together as a lethal team when they went through the training together and practised simulated missions. The squad featured in the game includes RC-1140 (Fixer), RC-1207 (Sev), RC-1262 (Scorch) and RC-1138 (Boss).
Delta Squad fought together for the entire Clone Wars. What happened to them before, during and after the war, is unknown, but there are several reports suggesting that the squad was the best in the training before the war, created or cemented republic victories during the war and may have trained the lethal Storm Commandos after the war.[citation needed]
The only other Squad of Clone Commandos mentioned in the game is that of Delta RC-1136, the leader of the squad that failed to destroy the droid factory on Geonosis.
Star Wars: Republic Commando records only three of their campaigns.
First campaign: Geonosis - The Zero Hour of The Clone Wars.
Delta Squad was inserted separately into the war-torn gladiatorial arena and points beyond during the Battle of Geonosis. Their primary target was to seek and destroy Geonosian Chief Lieutenant Sun Fac. After his assassination, the Deltas went deep underground to destroy a droid processing factory. Their final objective was to infiltrate a Confederacy of Independent Systems (CIS) core ship and obtain its launch codes.
Second campaign: Investigating the assault ship RAS Prosecutor.
Delta Squad's success on Geonosis attracted considerable attention from 'higher-ups' who next tasked the squad with the investigation of a derelict Republic ship - the RAS Prosecutor. The ship was familiar to the squad who were stationed on it in the first months of the war. To cover the vast starship, Delta Squad had to land in separate parts of it. Their best hope was to move fast and silent through the vessel, and recover their objectives. They found the ship under attack by Trandoshan slavers who had formed an alliance with the CIS. Delta Squad had to secure the ship from a joint Trandoshan/CIS assault in order to keep it under Republic control.
Third campaign: Kashyyyk.
Delta Squad was inserted into the forest planet Kashyyyk with the simple objective of finding and liberating Wookiee chieftain, Tarfful. After infiltrating the Trandoshan slaver camp they were able to confirm that General Grievous, the leader of the CIS forces, was on Kashyyyk. Their new objective was to destroy the pivotal Bridge of Kachirho, that linked the Wookiee resistance to an oncoming Separatist assault force. Their final objective was to man four AA turrets and take down a CIS cruiser that was idle overhead. However, RC-1207 (Sev) was injured in the process and unable to make the rendezvous. The mission ends with the revelation that the squad's activities thus far were for reconnaissance purposes in order to provide intelligence for the planned Battle of Kashyyyk. '38' gives the order to 'Lock and Load' as the Deltas' are given orders by Jedi Master Yoda to prepare for reinsertion to assist the Republic war effort on Kashyyyk. Later in the battle, RC-1138 (Boss) recieved a coded message from Supreme Chancellor Palpatine to execute Order 66. Delta Squad later succeded in killing Tarfful and helped the war effort to come to an end. During the events surrounding the Galactic Civil War, the veteran troopers of Delta Squad trained the soldiers of the Storm Commando Corps, who where known as the best soldiers in the galaxy.
