[edit] Gameplay
The game is in many ways more realistic than contemporary (and even most current) first-person shooters. Very often, one shot is fatal (occasionally the player will survive with no ill effect).
The single player game is let down by predictable and unchallenging AI but otherwise gives a similar play experience to many other FPS games. In Multiplayer the combination of functionally unlimited maps and accurate ballistics make for unique, well balanced, skill based (not reaction based) combat with levels of tactical play and psychology unparalelled even in recent games (which tend to be optimised for immediate and constant action, not slower tactical play). Eg.: A sniper could lob rounds at a soldier from more than 2km away, if he was good enough to compensate for wind and round drop at that range, but doing so would reveal his/her position allowing the enemy to engage him/her.
Cheaters tend to make use of the 'father2u' program which gives the cheating player a huge advantage over an unsuspecting player. The program allows cheaters to warp at will from one spot to another and elevate their position. It also gives them an automatic .50 calibre machine and an automatic grenade launcher. Invariably, the program will also change the cheating player's name to 'blackhawk'. One of the easiest ways of defeating the cheater is to go into a room that insists on the use of a cheat blocking software program that prevents the use of this cheat. It is worth noting that the open Novalogic rooms do not employ this and subsequently it is normal to see people dying en masse at the hands of automatic grenade fire or being knifed to death by players that warp behind snipers.
The only weapon with any recoil in the game is the M82A1 .50 calibre, allowing players to 'snipe' at a medium range even with a heavy machinegun (which in real life would be horribly inaccurate).
[edit] Other Features
Delta Force 2 includes a map editor with most copies of the game. This allows players to create their own maps using a fairly intuitive interface. Delta Force 2 also has a large online community of players who often play online/multiplayer.
Delta Force 2 uses a Voxel based rendering system unlike most other games of the same time.
[edit] Weapons
Assault Rifles Master Key; M4 Carbine, Shot Gun Can shoot in bursts of three shots, or single shot, as well as a poor shotgun which in only truly valuable within tight areas. The gun is designated for 500 meters on the game, but the 4x scope is adjustable to shoot 1000 meters. Comes standard with 12 clips of 30 rounds of ammo, though you can carry a maximun of 23 if you replace secondary and auxiliary item. This is only chosen over the M4/M203 in the case when the player wants to have a little fun, or in multiplayer events where players are only allowed to use shotguns.
M4 Carbine/M203 Grenade Launcher Can shoot in bursts of three or single shot, as well as a M203 grenade launcher. This is the same gun as the Master Key, with the substituion of a grenade launcher in place of a shotgun. This gun can shoot grenades quite accurately over short to medium range by any novice, though up to 700 meters by a player who knows how to use it. Though the grenade will not detonate when launched at an object within two meters or so, such as if a player shot at his own feet.
Machine Gun/Sub-Machine Gun M249 SAW This gun shoots at a rapid rate of fire with 2 boxes of 200 rounds of ammo standard, though you can carry up to 4 boxes of ammo if you replace your secondary and auxiliary items with extra ammo. The gun is designated to kill at up to 800 meters and is well capable of doing so with lack of recoil or spray. Though there is a small notion of inaccuracy on the weapon, making it to where your taget would have a chance is move for cover.
H&K MP5 SD3 Suppressed This gun is designated to kill at up to 100 meters, though with its weakening silencer, it requires at least two shots most of the time, even if both hit the head. Each clips hold 30 rounds, though at its rate of fire, and it weak power, its best to carry as much ammo as possible. To opponents, though, this gun is only audible within about ten meters. This gun is best when used behind enemy lines, within their base, where the player is extremely well hiden. Not many players find it beneficial enough, though if used well a players kill/death ratio will be quite impressive.
Sniper Rifles M40A1 Sniper Rifle This gun is designated to kill up to 800 meters, and it is a wise choice to not use it past that. This can can carry a maximun of 23 magazines which hold 5 rounds each. The rifle is equipped with a 10x scope.
M82A1 Barret Sniper Rifle This is a high power rifle capable of accuratly shooting at 1800 meters, though designated on the game for 1500. The rifle if equipped with a 10x scope this is adjustable to aim at 1500. You can carry around 7 magazines at max with 8 rounds each.
