[edit] About Del

In July 2005, Del Dingle sped into Emmerdale in a flash red sports car, clad in a wedding dress and refused to tell anyone what had happened on her big day.

In fact, she was so desperate to fend off questions about what had happened, she gave away the widescreen TV she’d received as a wedding present just to convince her uncle Zak to put her up at the Dingle homestead.

The next day, her bewildered fiancé Jay arrived, convinced Del had just got cold feet and could be persuaded to go through with the wedding after all. But she couldn’t. After much soul searching, Delilah had realised that although she loved Jay, he wasn’t the man for her and gently told him they had no future together. Although hurt, Jay didn’t have hard feelings towards his ex, and they parted amicably.

Settling into life in Emmerdale, Del – a talented seamstress – agreed to help out Val Lambert and Eric Pollard’s soft furnishings business and soon became an integral part of the company. Not only did she earn some much-needed money, but Del also struck up friendships with her co-workers Sandra and Pearl Ladderbanks, and became thick as thieves with boss Val – helping her out of a number of scrapes.

And it was those friends who she would turn to when her heart was broken just weeks later. Resident hunk Carl King was majorly on the rebound. Having loved and lost Del’s cousin Chas, he was single again and the pair struck up a friendship. But while Del was convinced the flirtatious banter between them would lead to a proper romance, Carl was having doubts.

While in Spain on holiday with the Dingles, Carl rejected an advance from Del – explaining to her that he was still hung up on Chas and couldn’t be with her. Although she was distraught at the knockback, Del threw herself into being Carl’s best friend – and the pair ended up in bed together! But when, the next morning, Carl offered to give romance a go, Del knew it wasn’t right. So she let him go – and even helped him win back Chas by forcing him to confront her and declare his love. With Carl and Chas happily reconciled, Del tried to get on with life in Emmerdale as best she could. But her one night stand with Carl was about to come back to haunt her.

When Chas’ troublesome son Aaron came to stay, he discovered the secret and gleefully told his mother – hoping to cause maximum pain. Chas went mental but Del calmed her down and implored her not to give up the best man she’d ever been involved with. Chas calmed down and she and Carl got engaged.

Del was heartbroken to discover Alice Wilson, her cousin Sam’s fiancée, had been told her cancer was terminal and she and Chas joined forces to give her a hen night to remember - although Del struggled under the weight of the secret.

However, her own romantic life was about to take centre stage again. Del started to get close to local vet Paddy Kirk after agreeing to adopt abandoned pooch Titch. The fun-loving duo started dating and it was clear this was the beginning of something quite special. The problem was that Paddy’s good friend Toni Daggert had also decided she was in love with him and set out to ruin the flourishing romance. So far her schemes haven’t worked but are Paddy and Del strong enough to survive further attempts to drive them apart? Del also seems to be a bit more sensitive then the other dingle women. She also has a Great siniging voice. Del in general is a Kind and caring Dingle.
