Delano is a city in Wright County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 3,837 at the 2000 census.

Delano is located at 45.04 degrees north, 93.78 degrees west, along the South Fork of the Crow River. The ZIP code is 55328.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 6.7 km² (2.6 mi²), all land.

As of the census2 of 2000, there were 3,837 people, 1,368 households, and 986 families residing in the city. The population density was 576.4/km² (1,492.8/mi²). There were 1,391 housing units at an average density of 209.0/km² (541.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 98.18% White, 0.34% African American, 0.16% Native American, 0.29% Asian, 0.31% from other races, and 0.73% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.91% of the population.

There were 1,368 households out of which 45.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.5% were married couples living together, 8.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.9% were non-families. 22.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.80 and the average family size was 3.37.

In the city the population was spread out with 33.5% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 35.4% from 25 to 44, 17.1% from 45 to 64, and 7.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 96.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.7 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $52,917, and the median income for a family was $63,011. Males had a median income of $40,902 versus $30,562 for females. The per capita income for the city was $21,538. About 1.1% of families and 2.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 3.0% of those under age 18 and 8.8% of those age 65 or over.

Delano has three public schools, Delano Elementary, Delano Middle and Delano High schools. All three are at or past capacity. Underway are talks about expanding the schools. Delano also has parohical schools.

Delano students are known for their academic and athletic excellence. Last year, Delano Middle school was one of three schools in Minnesota to receive a Blue Ribbon of Excellence, and the only middle school.

[edit] High School Failure Rate

Delano high school has a failure rate of 1.4%, which means about eighteen students out of the seven hundred and twenty students at our school are failing one or more of their classes. Dr. Locklear, the school’s principal, has made it his personal mission to bring the failure percentage down to 0.
