DeLaSalle High School is a Catholic secondary school on Nicollet Island, an island in the Mississippi River in Minneapolis, Minnesota. With 39% people of color, it is the most diverse private school in the state of Minnesota and draws students from the entire 7-county metropolitan area. Some students have commuted 90 minutes (or more) to attend classes each day.
It was founded in 1900, and has been administered by the Christian Brothers throughout its 106-year history.
It is the only educational institution on an island in the Mississippi River and the only Catholic high school in the city of Minneapolis.
During part of the 05/06 school year DeLaSalle was attended by local Minneapolis rapper The Franchise.
The school has been an academic and athletic powerhouse for generations, amassing more than 50 athletic titles and awards in boys' basketball, football, baseball, cheerleading, swimming and diving and other sports. In 2006 both of the school's basketball teams participated in the MSHSL's boys' and girls' basketball tournaments. The boys' team won the Class AAA title and the girls' team placed 3rd in their first appearance ever.
