[edit] Who I am
My name is Nick. I'm a 24-year-old American who moved to Japan after graduating from college. I have been in the Osaka area for more than two years. I teach English at junior high schools, and I study Japanese language and culture in my free time (and at work too!). I am currently in the process of applying for graduate school, where I hope to study modern Japanese fiction and film. At this stage in my life, I live and breathe Japanese media.
I have done work for commercial and non-commercial print publications for several years; in college, I was the editor of a social science journal. I enjoy editing more than writing, and I find that I am better at adjusting and improving existing text than creating my own. In translation I find a happy medium; it is absolutely necessary to convey both the intended tone and the intended meaning of the author. I am interested in the philosophical questions presented by translation and I consider it an art form. I would like to have a Rosetta barnstar more than any other.
I translate things, but I don't consider myself a translator... yet. Because of these interests, a job translating Japanese artworks into English is my holy grail.
On Wikipedia, I am a strong advocate of exclusionism.
