DekiWiki

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

DekiWiki is an interoperable (stores in XHTML) MediaWiki fork that includes a rich text (WYSIWYG) editor, hierarchies, page level permissions, clean interface, file attachment and indexing, image galleries, and more. It is, like MediaWiki, released under the Gnu General Public License Agreement and found at OpenGarden.org.

DekiWiki was developed by MindTouch an open source software development company based out of San Diego that was founded at the end of 2004.

The authors of DekiWiki named it after the Japanese word for smart (Deki) and the Hawaiian wikiwiki, meaning fast and quick. DekiWiki was developed with an emphasis on open standards, extensibility, and performance. It facilitates information sharing in a contextually rich environment, allows the capture and sharing of files, which are indexed and searchable, and stores all content in XHTML-Strict to ensure a high degree of data reusability. Indexing is done with Lucene and AJAX is employed where appropriate to improve the usability of the user interface.

[edit] DekiFarm

MindTouch has also productized DekiWiki as a WikiFarm. Some early examples of this are: ViaWiki.com and Wiki.com.
