Deities in Sonic the Hedgehog

In the various incarnations of the fictional Sonic the Hedgehog universe, there are several characters who fall under the classification of deity. These beings often become involved in the story in either an antagonistic or ally role.

[edit] Babylon Gods
According to the legend explained in Sonic Riders, the people of the flying city of Babylon Garden angered the gods. As a result, the Garden fell from the sky, thus sparking the birth of the Babylon Rogues gang of thieves. Jet's power box somehow counteracts the curse of these gods, allowing the Babylon Garden to rise again.

Chaos is a water creature known as the "God of the Chao" and the "God of Destruction", and possesses abilities beyond those of ordinary beings. Seemingly indestructible, capable of manipulating water and changing shape, and with various other powers, Chaos lives up to his nickname.

Solaris is a god of time, seen in Sonic the Hedgehog. Solaris initially existed as a flame which was worshiped by the citizens of Soleanna. The Duke of Soleanna led experiments into Solaris, in the hopes of using its time control powers to allow humanity to correct its past sins. However, during one such experiment Solaris became unstable and split into two forms - Iblis, the raw power, and Mephiles, the consciense mind. Mephiles was sealed into an artifact known as the "Scepter of Darkness" whilst the Duke was forced to seal Iblis inside of his young daughter, Princess Elise The Third. Before dying from wounds caused by the accident, he told his daughter to grow up to be a strong queen who would never cry as doing so would destroy the seal on Iblis.
Ten years later, Mephiles was accidentally freed and set out to liberate his counterpart so that he may rejoin with it. Discovering that the princess had formed a bond with Sonic, he set out to find a way to kill her cherised friend so she may cry and thus release Iblis. Using his powers of time manipulation, Mephiles ventured to a future where Iblis release had already occurred. Lacking his conscience, Iblis existed as a constantly regenerating mindless fire beast who over two centuries had destroyed most of society. Here Mephiles manipulated Silver the Hedgehog and Blaze the Cat into believing Sonic had intentionally released Iblis in the past and that by going back in time they could assassinate him beforehand. This plan failed when Silver began to harbour doubts about the mission, fuelled by the loyalty various people showed to Sonic. Ultimately, Mephiles himself was forced to carry out the act by stabbing Sonic through the back, in front of Elise.
The princess broke down in tears, destroying the seal and releasing Iblis. Mephiles was quick to rejoin with his counterpart, once again forming their complete form of Solaris. Plunging the world into darkness he prepared to devour time itself. Before he could achieve this, he was defeated by a combined assault from Super Sonic, Super Shadow and Super Silver. His defeat spirited Elise and Sonic back to before the fateful experiment. After some contemplation, Elise chose to blow out the tiny flame that was Solaris and thus change history.

Three powerful entities, the Ancient Walkers hail from ancient times and remain an enigma, often appearing at important crisis times on Mobius. The Brotherhood of Guardians regard them as the only beings in history to attain absolute mastery of Chaos Energy. Appearing in multiple forms, most often as a trio of tiki masks, the three appear to offer advice and task their successors with the defense of Mobius. They most often communicate their wishes through their emissary, Athair. They first appeared to Tails during his journey in Downunda, and later during battles with Mammoth Mogul.
Due to the actions of Mammoth Mogul, who crippled them with his power after escaping the Master Emerald, the Ancient Walkers were destroyed by an interdimensional breach opened by the Arachne wielding the Sword of Acorns, which also allowed Ixis Naugus to escape the Zone of Silence. Before their destruction, they chose Aurora, Knuckles' great grandfather Athair and Tails' uncle Merlin Prower as their successors.

Allegedly the most powerful deity of Mobius (although Sonic the Hedgehog #163 implied that her might may be inferior to that of the Ancient Walkers) and the Chaos Force, Aurora's appearance depends on who views her. Because the only characters that have encountered her so far are Knuckles and Athair, she has only appeared before as a female Echidna. Aurora appears to Knuckles in the afterlife, after he sacrifices himself to save Dimitri. She shows him visions of his life, which prompts him to leave the afterlife and return home. She also helps him return to his normal red hue, as opposed to the green he would have had for some time. Later, she was one of the three Chaos Beings selected by the Ancient Walkers to replace them when they died, along with Athair and Merlin Prower.
Aurora is one of the mistress of the Ancient Walkers,the other being athair,who is knucles' great-grandmother, and she(aurora) seems to be rather selective about her intervention. She is fully willing to get involved in her own affairs, but the rest of the time leaves Mobius hanging. Being a deity, she has untold knowledge, including the fact that Knuckles was worthy of a second chance at life. (It should be noted that Knuckles was revived, not reincarnated; in essence, Aurora found Knuckles worthy of coming back to life in the same body that he had died in, at the same age, instead of being reborn as somebody entirely different.)
Mammoth Mogul revealed that the Order of Ixis, which he founded, was decimated during the "Forgotten War" with the Albion Knights of Aurora. This organization was named for Aurora, and in their efficient efforts left only Mogul and the three sorcerers who would become Ixis Naugus.
[edit] Chaos Knuckles
In Archie, Knuckles was able to turn into a green-colored Chaos Knuckles. Chaos Knuckles was incredibly powerful, he had all kinds of Chaos powers and he overloaded two chaos syphons. His Chaos powers included Chaos Blasts, teleportation, time and space traveling, healing ability, mind control, reality manipulation, and several others. This was Knuckles' most powerful form, but he lost this power when he came back from death. Chaos Knuckles was the most powerful Chaos entity on Mobius when he appeared. Another anormality in Chaos Knuckles was that his form was permanent, and Knuckles would have remained in that state if not for his death.

Ixis Naugus has achieved a sort of godhood in the creation of the Void/Zone of Silence. While in this dimension, Naugus is omnipotent, and presumably able to do anything that he wishes. However, when outside the Zone, Naugus loses his omnipotence, though he remains a powerful being. As a result, one of Naugus' plans is to fuse the Zone of Silence together with Mobius, thus allowing him domination over the planet with all the power he has in the dimension he created.

On two occasions, the villainous Mammoth Mogul has attained godhood, only to be thwarted by Sonic, Tails and Knuckles. The first such occasion was during his attack on the Floating Island, when he managed to absorb the energies within Enerjak to become the omnipotent Master Mogul. He was ultimately defeated by Super Sonic, Hyper Knuckles and Turbo Tails and sealed in the Master Emerald. Mogul's second such transformation occurred when he successfully stole the energies of Turbo Tails and Chaos Knuckles (who was at the time a living Chaos Emerald). During his second tenure as this being, Mogul was shown to have the power to crush entire universes with his bare hands.
[edit] Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails (Archie Universe)
In the Archie Comics continuity, Sonic the Hedgehog, Knuckles the Echidna, and Miles "Tails" Prower are part of a legend. According to prophecy, the three of them are destined to someday reach a "divine status", thus implying that in the future they will be deities. As if to emphasize this, all three possess abilities that are matched by only a rare few. However, it also proves to be a disadvantage, and Mammoth Mogul has personally vowed that he will prevent the three from reaching that status. Tails is supposed to be the "Chosen One", destined to be a greater hero than either of his comrades. Similarly, Knuckles appears to be the "Avatar", a figure from the prophecy destined to bypass the afterlife and return to deliver the world from its suffering. Tails and Knuckles have probably come the closest to their divine status, with Knuckles' union with the Chaos force and Tails' transformation into Titan Tails. Despite saving the planet constantly, there have been no hints of divinity within Sonic.

In issue 150 of the Sonic the Hedgehog Archie Comics, Tails fuses together with numerous parallel versions of himself. The resulting entity is a being known as Titan Tails, a being whose power exceeds that of Master Mogul. Titan Tails commands powerful cosmic energy, and as a higher being has greater knowledge of the universe's workings.

A character from Sonic The Comic Online, Vichama initially appeared to be a powerful Echidna. However, this turned out to be a host vessel for a being that called itself "the God of Death", a powerful and malignant spirit hinted to be responsible for countless deaths 8000 years ago.
