Degrémont

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Founded by Gilbert Degremont in 1939, this Paris-based company is part of the Suez group and specializes in water treatment engineering.

It has revenues of under 1bn USD worldwide and is the primary vector for international expansion for the Suez group.

2005 revenues increased 8.5% to 960m EUR, but the company suffered a hit in its profitability due to problems at its UK subsidiary. Many feel that the Chairman of the parent company Suez Environnement, Jean Louis Chaussade, who was Chairman of Degremont at the time, should have resigned over this issue. Instead, he was promoted.

The company is typically French in its workings and corporate culture, in spite of its many international projects all over the world.

The company is split into 4 business units - Design & Build, Equipment, Services, and BOTs - and 2 business lines - Europe and International. There are also a few transversal functions such as Engineering, Finance & Administration etc.

It's main competitor around the world is Veolia Environment, which is part of the Veolia Group, which in turn used to be part of Vivendi. There are many instances of senior managers coming to work from Veolia to Degremont, although not many cases of them going the other way.
