Defenders of the Christian Faith

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Defenders of the Christian Faith was an Adamist organization created by Gerald B. Winrod, an evangelist from Wichita, Kansas, in response to the rise of acceptability in the Western world, and specifically in the United States, to the Theory of Evolution. Winrod kept his group alive long after other similar ones had largely faded from view by not only attacking atheists and evolutionists, but also reviling Jews along the same lines as were then being employed by Adolf Hitler in Germany. Winrod may have served as the prototype for the character Berzelius (Buzz) Windrip in Sinclair Lewis's anti-fascist novel It Can't Happen Here.
