From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the fictional Star Wars universe, technology plays a major role in the activities of all characters and factions. According to George Lucas, (insert fancy quote about "star wars is sci-fi, but also mythological at the same time. technology serves as a way to bridge myth and scifi..." and so on). Each aspect of Star Wars technology is derived from various sources and plays a role in the stories of the Star Wars saga.

[edit] Communications
Characters in Star Wars communicate through various portable devices, such as comlinks. Communications are often instantaneous in the saga; Lucas has pointed out that (insert quote "communication delay would be a bad plot device to use, for it would delay the plot and cause excess complexity..." and so on).
In terms of more large-scale communications, the HoloNet is the main Faster-than-light network used to communicate within the Star Wars; it is first featured implicitly in The Empire Strikes Back when Darth Vader communicates with his master Emperor Palpatine after the Battle of Hoth, although it is first named and described in works from the Expanded Universe. It is usually mentioned within the context of news, though it functions and serves much as a futuristic version of today's Internet (for the government and military only in the Empire, but open to civilians of the Republic and New Republic) in electronically binding together the galaxy; it has been implied that much of HoloNet was installed by the Empire so as to better control its territory- this can be seen as analogous to the Roman Empire's massive road-building efforts; as the HoloNet is built on hypertransmitters permanently stationed in hyperspace, relays are needed every some-odd light years, which necessitates a massive production and investment in these hyper-relay platforms.
[edit] Tools
Star Wars features multiple tools modeled after real-life and futuristic depications.......
[edit] Droids
Droids serve as the robotics of Star Wars, which, according to Lucas, were modeled after "the androids of the..." blah blah.
