Decree of Memphis (Ptolemy IV)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Decree of Memphis is an ancient stone decree issued by Ptolemy IV of the Hellenistic Ptolemaic dynasty, which ruled Egypt from 305 BC to 30 BC.
Like the Rosetta Stone, the Decree of Memphis is inscribed in three Writing systems. It is a bilingual, in egyptian hieroglyphs, egyptian Demotic and Greek. Its estimated date of creation is approximately (?)218 BC.
It is also called the Memphis Stele, or Memphis stone, and appears to occur in Ptolemy IV's military reign. The consequence of studying the three stones, of the "Rosetta Stone Series", would be an insight, into some language developments, but also of the Social, political, priestly, economical(?), and inter-personal intrigues of the ( ~3 )three generation timeframe, the 40 plus years included between, 196 and 238 B.C.E. ( =42 years ), about 2 and 1/2 generations of 'Pharaonic' rule.
The Decree of Memphis (Ptolemy IV) is on two copies of the decree. A partial is on the stone, (?) the Memphis Stele, and the nearly complete Pithom Stele II.
On the Surface, ... the 3 memorial stones are Similar, with consistent, lengthy, detailed Stories, and are all designed to be the 3 Script trilinguals, ... AND, to be publicly Erected for Presentation, and Discussion(?) (so All Will Recognize, be COGNIZANT- Rosetta ). That in itself, would yield, the Hypothesis: ( ? ) " The 3- Stone Series, shows an attempt for Stabilty through TIME, and Stability through Eqyptian rule by the Pharaoh. "
