Death education

Death education is education about death that focuses on the human and emotional aspects of death. Though it may include teaching on the biological aspects of death, teaching about coping with grief is a primary focus.

Death education is sometimes part of the training of those who encounter dying or bereaved people in their professions, for example those who work in nursing homes. It can also involve education aimed at the public, where it is often intended to correct misconceptions surround death and dying and encourage more openness about the subject.

Death education has appeared as part of the curriculum of some schools. Occasionally this practice has created controversy because of the subject matter covered and teaching methods used.
