Dear Mama is a song on 2Pac's third album, Me Against the World. It is dedicated to his mother, Afeni Shakur. Its melody samples "Sadie" by The Spinners, and "In All My Wildest Dreams" by Joe Sample.
[edit] Critical and Commercial Success
The song topped the Billboard Hot Rap Singles Chart for five weeks, the R&B/HipHop Singles chart for one week, and peaked at #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. It also topped the Hot Dance Music Maxi-Singles sales chart for 4 weeks.
It is considered by many to be 2Pac's most emotional and most respected song, and is praised by many artists, (Eminem mentions it as his favorite Tupac song [1]) even by many artists who aren't into the hip hop business.
In 1998 it appeared on 2Pac's Greatest Hits.
The official remix produced by Nitty and featuring Anthony Hamilton appears on the 2006 release Pac's Life.
