Deal Castle was built by Henry VIII, between 1539 and 1540, and is one of the most impressive of the Device Forts. It has 6 low half-round bastions surrounding 6 higher towers that in turn surround a barracks keep. Now owned by English Heritage. It is located in Deal, Kent, England, between Walmer Castle and the remains of Sandown Castle. It was an artillery fortress to counter the threat of invasion from Catholic France and Spain.
