[edit] Character
In last minute move to stop Amber (Adrienne Frantz) and CJ's (Mick Cain) wedding in October 2000, Rick Forrester (Justin Torkildsen) tracked down the Deacon Sharpe, the biological father of Little Eric in order for him to sign over parental rights to he and Amber.
A visit from Deacon's abusive father, Darryl, left him unconscious and battered. Deacon vowed to be a better father then Daryl ever was as he began to develop a bond with Little Eric. A legal arrangement outside of the Forrester family influence saw Amber agree to a four month live-in arrangement with Deacon and Little Eric upon which time he would relinquish all parental rights and let her go if she still wants to. Brooke's (Katherine Kelly Lang) interference and convincing photographs of Rick and Amanda kissing at their interstate tennis match drove Amber into the comforting arms of Deacon. A friendly kiss between the two was interpreted by Rick as a reason to end the engagement. Deacon then organized a surprise getaway for the devastated Amber by taking her to Las Vegas. There the two bonded as they learned more about each other. An encounter with Daryl lead to a breakthrough for Deacon overcoming past demons there since childhood. Stephanie (Susan Flannery) then informed Rick of Brooke's manipulation and he went to search for Amber. Rick and Amber soon reunited and planned to marry as soon as possible and Amber asked Deacon to sign papers releasing her from the four month agreement but instead allowing visitation to Little Eric.
Eric (John McCook), Stephanie (Susan Flannery), Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) and Thorne (Winsor Harmon) visited Deacon at his nightbclub The Lair. Deacon was furious when Eric boasted about not having to pay the agreed million set in the original documents. Deacon ordered them out of his apartment and promised them that they would all pay for this abuse. Previous chance meetings at Deacon's club, at Mannequins and Café Russe saw a friendship develop between Deacon and Eric's daughter, Bridget (Jennifer Finnigan). Both were unaware of who the other was until Bridget left Deacon her number, revealing to him that she was a Forrester. Deacon came clean and told her his name. Bridget was stunned when she realized who he was, but Deacon manipulated Bridget into thinking he now cared for her. Before reluctantly moving ahead with his plan to use Bridget, Deacon tried to get Rick, Brooke and Amber to stop the wedding. Amber and Rick's wedding day arrived and as the ceremony began and the two were about to exchange vows, Eric stood up and asked the minister to stop as he approached Deacon and demanded he leave immediately. Eric and Brooke were mortified when Bridget announced that Deacon was her date!
The guests were asked to leave and Deacon and Amber went to the den to talk while the rest of the Forresters tried to make Bridget see Deacon's true intentions. When Rick, Eric and Brooke entered the den, Deacon forced them to choose between Amber and Bridget stating that he would be leaving with one of them. Eric, Ridge and Thorne beat Deacon to a pulp before throwing him out of Stephanie's mansion, and Bridget went running after him. In the car, Deacon proposed and the two of them drove to Las Vegas and got married. The Forresters were shocked and appalled when they learnt of Bridget's marriage and resolved the situation temporarily by letting the newlyweds stay at Taylor's (Hunter Tylo) Beach house without any family interference. When Eric, Brooke and Rick called Deacon on the speaker phone demanding Bridget be sent home, Deacon retaliated by leaving the phone off the hook as they listened in horror to Deacon making love to Bridget. The following day, as Deacon left Insomnia, he was caught off guard by a hit and run assailant knocking him down. At the hospital, Deacon revealed that the driver who hit him was Eric and decided not to press charges, strengthening Bridget's faith in Deacon.
In a move that shocked viewers, Deacon then pursued an affair with his mother-in-law, Brooke. Although they both tried to keep their feelings in check, they eventually gave in to their passion and shared one adulterous night after another. The two were given a wake-up call when a test revealed that Brooke was pregnant. Though Deacon wanted to be a part of his child's life, Brooke tried to push him away for Bridget's sake, but the temptation became too strong and they gave in to their desires again. A furious Stephanie found out and forced Brooke to marry Whip Jones (Rick Hearst) in order to hide the truth from Bridget. Bridget's world came crashing down around her when she overheard Brooke and Deacon talking and realized that Deacon, not Whip, was the baby's father. She took comfort in Stephanie, who vowed that she would be her mother from now on. Bridget confronted Brooke at Big Bear and Brooke went into labour, forcing Stephanie and Bridget to deliver the child. Eventually, Bridget patched things up with Brooke, and even named her baby: Hope Logan was born in 2004.
Deacon married Macy Alexander (Bobbie Eakes) in 2003, and the two began raising Little Eric, who Deacon had sued for custody of when the Forresters denied him access to either of his children. Macy died in a tragic accident not long thereafter, leaving Deacon to raise his son alone. He tried to persuade his ex-wife, Bridget, back, but she was committed to Oscar Marone (Brian Gaskill). Not long after, Deacon began a torrid affair with Jacqueline Marone (Lesley-Anne Down), and when her husband Massimo (Joseph Mascolo) had a stroke, Deacon delighted in tormenting a paralised Massimo by telling him about the affair with Jackie, even drugging Jackie with Massimo fully aware. Massimo recovered but Jackie stayed with Deacon. Shortly after Heather Engle (Shari Headley) came to work for Deacon, he started having the same old craving for liquor, not realizing that Heather, who was in cahoots with Massimo to get revenge on Deacon, had been spiking his drinks. After realising he couldn't stop the thirst, he decided to go to rehab. Bridget (now played by Ashley Jones) found out the truth, but was unable to stop him in time.
A broken-hearted Deacon left Los Angeles to get his life back together, leaving Jackie behind.
