De novo repeat detection

De novo repeat detection is the prediction of the amino acid sequence from peptide fragment masses of a protein obtained by a mass spectrometry measurement.
This method does not always generate a biologically relevant answer, since some amino acids have identical masses (e.g. Leucine and Isoleucine).
Peptide mass fingerprinting methods give better results as long as the peptide mass information for the protein under investigation is known or if the whole genome for the organism with this protein is known.
