[edit] Railway stations in Israel

So that people don't delete your railway station articles before you have finished them, please don't post articles until they're ready. Otherwise, another editor might think there was nothing there and delete the article. Please see Binyamina Railway Station, where I added some text from another article. TruthbringerToronto (Talk | contribs) 05:53, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the advice. I'll try to work on every article separately and only then move on to the next one. I'm still learning... Db1944 12:47, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

Could you please take some photographs of rail stations and upload them to http://commons.wikimedia.org Once photographs have been added there, they can be used in any of the Wikipedias, including English, Hebrew, and any other language that is of interest to you. TruthbringerToronto (Talk | contribs) 11:29, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

Although I myself use the train fairly often I visit only a limited number of stations, but as soon as the current crisis ends - the stations will reopen and I'll be able to take a photo. I have to say that I found photos of many other stations on other sites on the internet but because the rules of copyrighting aren't clear to me (even after I've read Wikipedia:Copyrights) I'm not sure whether or not it's legal for me to use them in my articles. [edit] Hello

Shalom,

I just wanted to thank you for your work on Israel Railways station articles. I always wanted to do this, never made it. Just a suggestion: maybe the links to Israel Railways' site and חדשות הרכבת in every page are redudant. I think it's enough to have them on the main Israel Railways page.

Thanks, IgKh 15:05, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

I myself though about it a lot and at the end I decided that these two sites have a section describing the stations and should be included in the external link section, but maybe this should be reconsidered. I'd love to hear some thoughts about this. Besides that, thanks for the support. I'm doing the best I can but sometimes it's really hard to find specific details (especially historical ones) about the stations and unfortunately I don't have photos of them, so the work is going pretty slow. Db1944 20:37, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
There is this source: [1] and this one: [2], which I belive is fairly reliable and interesting. Regarding Tel-Aviv Merkaz there are a lot of facts: it was opened in 1954 along side with the new coastal rail, replacing Bene Beraq station (then called Tel Aviv Tzafon) as Tel Aviv's northbound rail station. The platforms moved to their current position in Ayalon after the openning of the Ayalon Line in 1993. The station hall was re-built in 2004-5, and the foot bridge to Ramat-Gan openning in the late 90's IIRC.
Also, when I initialy worked on the "Start Israel Railways Box" template and applied it to Jerusalem's rail stations I used south to north sematics (i.e., Jerusalem Malcha's previous station was terminus). You used north to south sematics (Nehariya's previouse station is also terminus). The jerusalem station should therefore be revised. Also, as of the new scheduale the line Jerusalem-Kfar Saba no longer exists. It has been splitten to the Jerusalem-Tel Aviv Merkaz and Kfar Saba-Tel Aviv HaHagana lines. Thanks, IgKh 16:06, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
I’ve read about the new schedule but haven’t seen it yet, the moment I’ll get my hands on it I’ll revise the templates. I also wanted to thank you for the links you’ve provided, I’ve used the first one numerous times but I was unaware of the second one – it’s great! Any and all other suggestions will be appreciated. Hi, Db1944!
You've indicated through various means (a userbox, membership in a category, etc) that you are part of the Wikipedia LGBT community, or are interested in Wikipedia's LGBT related pages. Welcome!

You may not know that Wikipedia has both an LGBT Notice Board and an LGBT Studies WikiProject. If you haven't yet done so, take a look at both of them. They sorely need attention and participation!

Some things on the "To-Do List" that merit particular attention include:

  1. Identifying topics/pages that need attention
  2. Identifying problems that need addressing
  1. Adding the LGBT Template to appropriate pages
  2. Categorizing LGBT pages

Please feel free to participate in any or all of these activities! And if you feel like it, add yourself to either the Noticeboard Members or the WikiProject Participants - or both!

Glad you're a part of Wikipedia - and Thanks! This invitation posted here by SatyrTN -- talk
Please remove it if you so desire.

[edit] Re: railway stations

No problem, I was touring the country the last couple days and have photos of several other train stations. However, they're not very good and I'm not sure if I should upload them. There are also photos of other things of course, I will be sorting through them in the coming days and seing if any of them should be on Wikipedia. -- Ynhockey (Talk) 17:04, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hi Db

Hi DB, i appreciate your appreciation for my pics of Tel Aviv, if your interested, i have tons of more pictures, all available here -- http://www.pbase.com/beivushtang also, i have some Jerusalem pics i'd like to add to the Jerusalem article, but it's blocked from editing by a wikipedia-newbie like me, maybe you can add them.

Beivushtang 09:53, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

I’ve seen some more of your photographs and they’re amazing! You can count me as one of your fans. About the Jerusalem article – I see that while I was investigating the issue of you being unable to add your photographs it all sorted itself out, and I’m glad it did. I’d be happy to be of assistance at any time.

[edit] Re: Infobox Israel muni

I disagree that it should be removed. When a population figure is given anywhere, the first thing the reader wants to know is what year the census/estimate was taken. Especially considering the fact that in some countries no census or educated estimate has been made for 10+ years. The reader likely wants to know how up to date the information is. In any case, even if not everyone may benefit from knowing the estimate year, I still don't see how it harms the template. -- Ynhockey (Talk) 13:06, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Road designation

I think your translations are accurate, although if you can, try to check in an authorized government source (they probably thought of translating it to English at least once, although at the moment I can't find any information in English on the MoT site). And yes, Highway 443 should probably be called Road 443, or a more neutral Route 443. The blue roads should be called freeway in English IMO, because it clearly indicates that they are just that - freeways (כביש מהיר). I edited one image caption because it called a blue road an expressway, which is incorrect. -- Ynhockey (Talk) 19:15, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Great, so I’ll change the other image captions to match. I’ll hold off the moving of the articles (Route 90 should be Highway 90, and Highway 443 should be Route 443) until I’ll find out the official designations. Db1944 19:20, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
Good job on all the transportation infrastructure. I hope I didn't add to the confusion with my naming of 443, but I'm not quite sure if colour should be the primary means of naming, especially when [green] roads like 443 have lane separation and partial grade separation, while [red] 'highways' like 7 (an extreme example I admit), whose single digit designation suggests a main artery, are merely the most simple of local roads. Then again, there's no need to add organisation on Wikipedia to the casualty list of those responsible for road designations. I'm also curious about how you are manufacturing the road-sign images. Cheers, TewfikTalk 05:59, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
First of all I want to say that I completely agree with you that the numbering and color classification used by the Israeli MoT are somewhat lacking, but they’re the official standard, so in the name of order and coherency they are the ones we have to use. I personally believe that article names should be divided into “Highways” and “Routes”. Highways should include freeways and expressway (as designated by the MoT – blue and red), and Routes should be roads of enough significance to be included in Wikipedia but of regional and local designation. The specific designation should be noted only in the article itself. I hope this plan of action is acceptable to all, and if not I’d love to debate it! I’ve been in contact with the MoT spokesperson regarding some of these issues and he referred me to the traffic planning department. I’m planning to call them soon, so if you have any queries you’d like to add please let me know!
About the road-signs – they were done by the most low-tech means possible, using PowerPoint and drawing by eye. I hope the result is satisfactory despite the primitive means. Good Day, Db1944 13:27, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Adopt-a-User Discussion

Hey David;

Hope your getting on well. I would like to apologise for my absense from Wikipedia - but I feel it is justified after (a) my huge workload, and (b) the fact I've been editing Wikipedia non-stop (bar holiday x1) for over a year! I hope I haven't impaired your editing because of a lack of advice and I hope it won't need to happen again!

Just dropping you a message that I've replied to your numerous requests for advice on my talk page. Also, newsflash :) I've completed the review! It's very short and to the point, but it contains everything there is to say!

Cheers and regards,

Anthonycfc (talkemail) 20:00, Saturday December 9, 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Israeli Highways routebox

I think this template needs another name. First of all because route is like highway, so it basically says Israeli highway highwaybox. But there are other reasons, like the fact that it's an infobox. Also it's not according to MOS ('highways' should not be capitalized) etc. I think the name should be: Infobox Israel highway. If you think this is bad, please state your reasons and we will discuss the naming. I will not move the template until you reply. I will however make cosmetic changes to its structure. -- Ynhockey (Talk) 18:01, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for bringing it to my attention. I have no problem with the renaming and you’re free to move it. I was just modeling it after the UK Motorway Routbox. The colors I chose were shades of blue and white, but again – feel free to correct anything you feel is necessary. Db1944 18:08, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
