[edit] About Daz

Daz entered the series in 2003 as the half-brother of Andy Sugden. His errant mother left him home alone to go on holiday to Spain with her latest boyfriend, Daz decided to seek out his half-brother. But the reunion wasn’t the happy one Daz had hoped for. Andy hated his father Billy Hopwood - known to the Emmerdale villagers as the man who killed Vic Windsor, and wasn’t keen on extending the hand of friendship to his father’s younger son. It was clear that Daz desperately needed his brother and Andy reluctantly took him in.

Daz was initially a bit of a troublemaker. When he tried to make up for his mischievous past deeds with his community service, things turned out badly. He asked Scott Windsor to let him help in the garage, but Scott refused. Daz angrily set fire to the garage, in the process discovering Andy's fiancée Katie having an affair with Andy's adoptive brother Robert. Daz told Andy the truth, but Robert and Katie tricked him into thinking Daz was trying to cause trouble. Andy thought about putting Daz into care, but the truth came out eventually and all hell broke loose. Alone and depressed, Andy allowed local rogue Cain Dingle and his daughter Debbie to move in and Daz was soon embroiled in the dastardly Dingle’s burglary schemes.

But a more serious problem was about to descend on the Sugden household. Debbie, who’d long been the object of Daz’s affections, had begun sleeping with Andy. And, when Cain found out, the couple were under siege from a rabble of furious Dingles. To protect Daz, who Cain had vowed to lead astray, Andy broke off the relationship.

But Debbie was pregnant and, just as she was about to give birth, Daz discovered her secret. When Debbie put in a desperate phone call to him, Daz rushed to her side and very nearly had to deliver the baby himself. Realizing the terrible future that Debbie was facing, besotted Daz offered to stand by her, pretend the baby was his and take care of her and the baby.

His offer was met with scorn by the Dingle dame and Daz made do with just keeping close to mother and baby as a friend. For the first time in his life Daz had someone he could love unconditionally in baby Sarah so he was utterly bereft when Debbie gave her away to Emily Kirk. The fall out of Debbie’s decision affected everyone in their respective families – not least Daz himself.

Unable to bear the sight of Debbie, he opted to no longer speak to her. This made things difficult as they had a mutual friend in the form of Jasmine Thomas. Daz had an almighty crush on Jasmine and was absolutely horrified to discover that she and Debbie had embarked on a lesbian relationship.

Meanwhile, at home there were more problems for Daz. After saving Belle Dingle and himself from a certain death at Christmas, Daz was finally feeling loved by his family and very settled at Butler’s farm.

However, when Andy’s estranged wife Katie came back to Emmerdale it all fell apart. Daz couldn’t believe that Andy would forgive Katie for cheating on him and get back together with her and demanded he chose between them. Andy reluctantly chose Katie and Daz left the farm to live with Jack and Diane Sugden.

However, Diane wasn’t keen on taking in another child as she was recovering from cancer and found Daz too hard to handle. Whereas Jack – who had grown deeply fond of the boy – wanted to legally adopt him to give him security.

In the end Daz decided to withdraw from the situation so that the Sugden marriage would survive and went back to Butler’s Farm. But he hadn’t forgotten how much he hated Katie and decided to prove she was still a cheating, lying bitch. After a heated argument Daz kissed Katie to try and prove that she would cheat on Andy, but she didn't.

His mother returned to the village and wanted to bring Daz back with her and start over. Feeling guilty about kissing Katie, Daz decided to leave. Andy was upset by his departure.

A couple of months later a bruised Daz returned to the village to the joy of Jack, Diane, Andy and even Katie. He's currently living with Jack and Diane, who are in the process of trying to adopt Daz.

Recently, Daz was delighted when baby Sarah was returned to Andy's house after being left on the doorstep by Emily. He is also studying for his GCSEs.
