[edit] Taxobox

Hi. Either taxobox method can be used, but the WikiProject has been using the single template form for new entries since it was created. The multiple row format is older and a bit more complicated. --CBD 23:46, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Caecilian photo

Thanks for the caecilian photo, I have been hoping someone would upload one soon. As I don't have any in my country, I had to rely on others. Thankyou! --liquidGhoul 02:05, 6 February 2006 (UTC)

No problem at all. I have a large library of my own photography that I've been hoping to put to good use. I just wish I had been able to get closer to it to get a better shot, but zoos sort of frown on that sort of thing. :) -Dawson 02:06, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
I would like to use your Caecilian photo for another online encyclopedia. However, it lists "some rights reserved," which appears to require your name be mentioned. How should I list your name? Just Dawson, or is there another way to list who the photo is by? It is possible that hard copies will be made, so if I should list your name, it would be better below the image. 69.168.244.218 01:05, 17 March 2006 (UTC)
Just Dawson would be fine, but mentioning it as something to the effect of "Wikipedia contributor Dawson" would be nice. A below image caption works for me. I'd appreciate a link to the encyclopedia article when it's done, if its publicly available. Thanks. -Dawson 01:35, 17 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Caroline's Spine contribution

I just wanted to thank you for your recent contribution to the article Caroline's Spine. I started the article about a year ago, and I am glad to see that you have added a significant amount of material to it. I enjoyed this band a lot and I was suprised that no one had started an article before me, however I was pretty limited in the way of resources to add information about the band. So thank you again for your contributions, and welcome to wikipedia. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 00:31, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

You're most welcome. I love the band too and was rather disappointed when one of their album articles was deleted for 'not being important enough to include in wikipedia' so I figured I'd add some more detailed information, and make it more a more appropriate addition. I'll add more stuff as I think of it. I used to run a website dedicated to the band back in ~96/97ish. -Dawson 01:08, 13 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Someone must have been lazy, as you have not been welcomed yet. Thank you for your contributions. Since you have been here for a while, we can pretty much assume you are not a troll, vandal, or clueless newbie. I hope you continue to like the place and don't get all grumpy and leave over nothing. [edit] Calappa

Nice work on creating Calappa. One question, though — your photo [1] calls the crab Calappa sulcata, but it is given in the article as merely "Calappa sp." Is there some doubt about the identification? Otherwise, the species may as well be identified in the Calappa taxobox. Thanks, Stemonitis 08:17, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

I believe it is Calappa sulcata, thats what I purchased it as from the aquarium store, but those places are notorious for misidentifying things. I could not find a photographic reference to verify, so I am not absolutely positive. The species can vary quite a bit. I probably should have renamed the image as well. -Dawson 08:40, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Welcome to the auto project

Hi, and welcome the wiki project automobiles. Here's a user box developed by another use that you can put up on your user page:

WikiProject on Automobiles This user is a member of WikiProject Automobiles, a WikiProject which aims to expand coverage of automobiles on Wikipedia. Please feel free to join us.

Again, welcome to the wiki auto project and thank you for joining. I'm looking forward to your future contributions. Regards, Signaturebrendel 02:49, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. My main area of automotive interest is concept cars. Hopefully I can be of some use. :) -Dawson 03:06, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Request for edit summary

Hi. I am a bot, and I am writing to you with a request. I would like to ask you, if possible, to use edit summaries a bit more often when you contribute. The reason an edit summary is important is because it allows your fellow contributors to understand what you changed; you can think of it as the "Subject:" line in an email. For your information, your current edit summary usage is 27% for major edits and 94% for minor edits. (Based on the last 150 major and 150 minor edits in the article namespace.)

This is just a suggestion, and I hope that I did not appear impolite. You do not need to reply to this message, but if you would like to give me feedback, you can do so at the feedback page. Thank you, and happy edits, Mathbot 21:00, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Denis D'amour

Thanks for adding to it and editing my errors... I put it up because nobody else had anything on it. diediemydarling

No problem, but it looks like I added a mistake myself. :) It needs some more biographical information, I think I'll do some websearching. -Dawson 03:31, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Citing Sources

Hi, can you cite some sources for the CroFab article? It appears that you are the primary contributor of the article, so I'm appealing to you for help.--ikiroid | (talk) 23:24, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

I added the two websites I went to for information on it. -Dawson 23:27, 16 March 2006 (UTC)
OK, thanks.--ikiroid | (talk) 23:32, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RE: Referencing

Yes, well... I felt a little silly seeing that tag there too ;o) And no worries about the citations... they're a lot more complicated than they probably should be. Maybe that's why so many of our articles aren't sourced. Anyway, happy editing —Seqsea (talk) 08:14, 18 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] USS Galaxy

No big deal, I know you meant well, and there didn't exist an article for the US Navy's Galaxy. I just made one over at USS Galaxy (IX-54) and I fixed USS Galaxy so it doesn't only talk about the star trek ship. If your interested check out http://www.history.navy.mil/danfs/ for a listing of every USN ship (at least up to the 1950s or so, not many of the newer ships are there). And by the way your edit summary is what caught my attention. Had I not seen that I likely would have ignored the changes you made. Thanks for your contributions. -- malo (tlk) (cntrbtns) 05:00, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] John Steven Lasher afd

Hi, I'd like to ask if you'd perhaps reconsider this AfD on the basis of some new points I've brought up. Thanks! Girolamo Savonarola 16:15, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your indepth look into it. While I don't normally like to change my mind, it was not readily apparent how widespread the vanity was, and in a few Google searches on my own I couldn't find much that wasn't copied directly from IMDB, or written by the same person. The complete lack of independent sources brings serious doubt to the level of notability. -Dawson 18:27, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Taylor Lea Thomas

Just wanted to drop you a note to let you know that the article on Taylor Lea Thomas has undergone significant changes and will continue to improve with time. I appreciate you reading the article in the first place. We are trying all we can to make the article better suited for Wikipedia because Ms. Thomas has accomplished a lot and has received many awards and press for it and therefore, appropriate for this medium. I hope that you will soon see this for yourself and opt instead to keep the article. Thank you kindly. Peter Sanders 14:15, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

If you noticed, I was the only person, aside from yourself, to vote to keep on Elite Soirée, which I think should be the only article to keep of the three that were put up for deletion. The level of notability is entirely centered on the company, and if you worked to make that one article as indepth as possible, and include third party sourcing (from magazines, newspapers, etc), mention clients by name, and awards, you may get more support. -Dawson 19:25, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] John Steven Lasher

You participated in a discussion re the deletion of Mr Lasher from wiki. The article, which is not an autobiography, as incorrectly stated by the Italian bloke from UC Berkelehy. Secondly, it is not a vanity article, since he did not write it, or an autobiography. All this bickering is nonesense. I re-wrote a new article, to replace that authored by Sarah Clarke on vox_melba, stating the reason. It does not appear as revised. Futhermore, this person from UC Berkeley claims that it is a sockpuppet. Nonesense. I have informed Wicki management that our donations to Wiki have benn held back until the matter of constant deletions on the part of others is resolved. Jeremy Sefton-Parke. Contact me at kinopanorama@msn.com to further discuss. --Kinopanorama widescreen 03:00, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

Vanity does not only apply to the person the article is about, it also applies to any other form of advocacy, but my decision to alter my opinion from keep to delete was based on the fact that I was unable to find adequate sources online that were not immediately provided by you (or copied from your additions to IMDB). If you wish people to reconsider the article, my suggestion would be to provide independent sourcing for it - newspapers, magazines, a discography for soundtracks, and so forth. As for your donations and discussion with the management of Wikipedia, that is not my concern - I am merely a contributor who believes that community consensus is generally correct. -Dawson 05:28, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

The correct email address for Fifth Continent Australia Pty Ltd., the production company for Kinopanorama films, is: fifcon@bigpond.net.au The correct email address for Kinopanorama Music and Vision, the distribution company, and the webpage administration, is: kinopanorama@hotmail.com; lastly, the email address for Vox Melba Mastering Labs, the mastering studio for whom I have designed a phonograph cylinder playback unit, is vox_melba@yahoo.com.au; or, you may contact me direct at jslasher@hotmail.com; whichever you wish.

There is plenty of available data on those soundtracks that I have produced: film score monthly, film music on the web, didgeridoo records, buysountrax, et alia. Therefore, I leave it to someone else at another time to contribute a new article on myself, if they so wish.

So, as far as I am concerned, I would suggest that you get in tough with the other contributors and make a resounding vote to remove my name without further ado. John Steven Lasher.

Thank you for your response and clarification on the email address, but your wish has been granted, and the article has been removed. I am sure, though, that it will be written again in the future, should someone else have adequate sources to make it applicable. Please don't take the Wikipedia's system of determining notability personally, it is necessary to be fairly strict with reliable sourcing by the very nature of having anyone at all able to add literally anything to the encyclopedia. The system's greatest flaw is also what makes it such a fascinating resource. -Dawson 07:29, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] My RfA

My RfA recently closed and it was a success, passing at 84-02-00. I would like to thank you for taking the time to weigh in and on your subsequent support. And I know it's quite cliche, but if you ever need any assistance and/or want another opinion on something, grab a Pepsi and don't hesitate to drop me a line on my talk page. Thanks again. [edit] House of Prayer

Thank you for your help and adjusting the page. I am now pointed in the right direction I think. Hanako

Great, you're most welcome. :) Basic editing isn't that hard to get the hang of, its just that there is always someone out there who has a different opinion on how things should be done. Main thing to do is just make sure you cite sources, so when people do have an issue, you've got something to back it up. Everyone I've talked to tries to beat that into my head, it is slowly sinking in enough for me to parrot it. :) -Dawson 22:36, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

Appreciate your correction on my tree frog. I first moved your comment to the image file, and then discovered there was a duplicate file that had already been corrected. Pollinator 03:26, 29 March 2006 (UTC)

Ah, I didn't see the duplicate at all, I just followed your edit to Bufo. I keep grey tree frogs as pets, loud little guys. :) -Dawson 03:29, 29 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Research issues

Hi - thanks for your feedback on my contributions to 'Hills Pet Nutrition' article. I have pasted the following from a website, to which Hills has contributed: "Hill's Pet Nutrition Principal activities Providing the veterinary profession with an extensive range of nutrition for healthy (Science Plan) and sick animals (Prescription Diet) Commitment to research and development" I shall provide references as soon as I can gather them for you. Please reply to my 'talk' page. Thanks Ballista 21:06, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RFA Thanks

Hi Dawson. Thank you for your support vote on my RFA. The final result was a successful request based on 111 support and 1 oppose. I couldn't figure how you remembered me, but now I see that my note is still at the top of this page. :] --CBDunkerson 12:41, 3 April 2006 (UTC)

You always remember your first. *sniffle* -Dawson 07:04, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] National Cemetery

What made you pick the National Cemetery to write about? The link went from red to blue all from you. It was a big suprise. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) 04:16, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

I honestly have no idea... I just have an interest in military history, and researching the cemeteries touches on pretty much every war, most battles, and most of the heroes involved in those wars. Its really a fascinating section of history... but I'm not done yet. Still lots of red links in that area. -Dawson 04:41, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Kuhl's flying gecko photo

Thanks for the flying gecko photo. I have been looking for a photo. Shows the gliding adaptations nicely. I have added it to the Ptychozoon kuhli page and the flying and gliding animals page.

[edit] Re:E.Rubio

No, you are right. To tell you the truth, it was a slip of my finger. When I realized what I had done, I told myeslf "Tony, what the hell did you just do?" and I reverted myself. Anyway, there are a couple of other notable soldiers buried there and I will link them and add them to the list in the Cemetery's article. Let me know in my user page if everything is "cool" between us. Tony the Marine 04:57, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thank you

Thank you for your revert @ New Testament Christian Churches of America, Inc. The article is having a page blanking/vandalism problem. I am not sure how to go about requesting that IP's be banned, or what the rules are...any chance you can help me out? Thanks. Hanako 19:25, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

I wish there was a simple method - I've had my best luck with asking for admin help on IRC in #wikipedia-en or #wikipedia. I talk to people regularily in there, maybe one of them will be willing to look into it. Reading through Wikipedia:Resolving disputes though, are the rules for such cases, but any method mentioned there is kind of difficult when the "offenders" don't really seem interested in any discussion and just overtly vandalize. -Dawson 19:35, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
Thank you for your suggestions. Is the irc server irc.wikipedia.org? Hanako 19:44, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
irc.freenode.net and for a list of channels see Wikipedia:IRC channels -Dawson 19:49, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Request and Invitation!

Hello again,

I have created a table in the List of Anuran families article, which includes an example species from each family with a photo. If you have a photo from a family which is not represented with a photo, could you please upload it and add it to the table (or just tell me if you are unsure of the format). I would really appreciate it. Also, a new WikiProject has been created WikiProject Amphibians and Reptiles. I thought you might be interested and like to sign up. Thanks --liquidGhoul 08:12, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

You already have the pictures I took in that article. I'll dig through my collection to see if there is anything else I can add. Thanks for the invite to the project. I joined, even though I've thus far been thoroughly disappointed by the "Tree of Life" type projects lack of a standardized method for doing articles. -Dawson 18:50, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
