Hi!
This is about me. If you've gotten to this page, it's probably because you've seen an edit or something that I've done, so let me explain a bit about myself.

[edit] Purpose
My goal is pretty simple: I want to add articles and clarify articles to help Christians understand issues of doctrine. I'm not really concerned about whether their doctrine ends up agreeing with my own (although it'd be dishonest to say I didn't care about that). What I am concerned about is that certain doctrines are consistently and drastically misunderstood (Arminianism and Charismatic issues being two), and I'd like to see them represented fairly and thoroughly.
It's hard to do this with issues that are important to you and still remain NPOV (no point of view) and avoid Original research, but I really make an effort to abide by Wikipedia's rules. Take a look at some of the articles about Arminianism - I like using original sources and secondary sources and let them speak for themselves. Sure, I'll summarize, but I spend a lot of effort to make sure it's not simply my point of view, but that it's accurate.
If you happen to disagree with my views or my edits, I'm more than willing to agree to disagree. If you feel that something I wrote is NPOV or original research, call me out on it - User:KHM03 did that on my first article because I didn't cite one of my statements. (The issue was resolved with a simple citation.) I might disagree with you, but will always work towards resolution.
That said, let the fight for internet supremacy of Arminianism begin! (said in jest)
My Soapbox
One of my pet peeves are all these internet "doctrinal watchdog" sites - who seem to be either (a) Hyper Calvinists (not Hyper-Calvinists, but Calvinists who are simply way too hyper about their view) or (b) Dispensationalists. I don't fall into either of those groups (though not too far from Calvinism, all things considered) and I cannot stand it when things like Arminianism, speaking in tongues, prophecy, etc are termed heresy.
On one hand, these doctrines so often attacked are clearly not heresy because their primary goal is to bring glory to Jesus. On the other hand, I personally have to be VERY sure that something is wrong before I label it heresy, for fear of committing the Unforgivable sin. The Holy Spirit is the one who opens man's eyes to doctrine, and he is the one from whom all non-counterfeit uses of gifts (prophecy, etc) flow. I never want to point at someone or some doctrine and say "that is not the Holy Spirit, it is the devil" - because if I'm wrong, I'm in very hot water. Therefore anything that affirms the Nicene Creed without redefining those terms won't be labeled heresy by me.
[Note that blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is attributing His work to the enemy; it is not attributing the enemy's work to the Holy Spirit - so if (when) I'm wrong, that's where I try to err.]
Part of the purpose behind those sites is probably simple spite, but part of it is probably very sincere - although, as we all know, the internet is made of straw. That's why I enjoy Wikipedia - there are higher standards and that sort of crap isn't allowed.

- Arminianism - I'm very proud of this one as it's coming along. Thorough yet concise, clarifies several key issues, serves as the mothership for a number of supporting doctrinal articles, fully cited and supported
- Criticisms of Charismatic and Pentecostal belief - I revised the whole thing; it was 90% NPOV trash beforehand

[edit] Areas of Interest
- Theology
- Soteriology - Quite recently I was an ardent defender of Calvinism, but currently I'd consider myself a Classical Arminian - though I'm still en route. Although I do have my first two Calvinist jokes:
-
-
- (1) Books that I own that defend Arminianism: Grace, Faith, Free Will by Piricilli, Once Saved, Always Saved? by David Pawson, Why I am Not a Calvinist by Walls and Dongell, The Bible by God...
- (2) Q: How many Calvinists does it take to screw in a light bulb?
- A: It depends on how many are needed to get all the unbelievers out of the room, for only the elect are given the Light
- In all seriousness, I love my Calvinist brothers. I tend to believe that practically, Godly Calvinists and Godly Arminians differ only in semantics and terminology, and many (most?) of my spiritual heros were also Calvinist
-
-
- Spiritual Gifts - I'm a charismatic continualist and a Third Wave apologist
- Eschatology - I'm a post-tribulational premillenialist for the most part
- Israel & the Church - I'm an advocate of neither dispensationalism or covenant theology, but rather see one people of God (similar to covenant theology) in which the Gentiles have been grafted into the promises and rewards (and curses!) ascribed to Israel. I believe that Jews must accept Jesus to gain salvation (in other words, they were/are the corporate people of God even though individually many do not find salvation) but that the genetic/racial Jewish people still have a large role to play (similar to dispensationalism) including a massive return to Jesus (which I pray for avidly!)
- Worship Music
- Sports
- Boston Red Sox - huge fan!
- New England Patriots and other Boston-area sports - don't blame me, that's where I grew up...
- Virginia Tech football & basketball (alma mater!)
- Hup Holland, Hup!
- Music
- Electric & acoustic guitar - been playing for 7 years
- Piano & keyboards - been playing for 17+ years
- Groups I enjoy: Pink Floyd, Coldplay, U2, Keane, David Crowder Band, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, way too many to name
