Is "formidable" meant to be "formative?" —Fleminra 03:45, Jun 6, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] "Born virtuoso"

Sorry to split hairs, but I don't see either how coming in second in the Wieniawski competition (or starting with viola, for that matter) discounts Oistrakh as a "born virtuoso," or even what this phrase means exactly. Surely Oistrakh had plenty of natural talent, so I don't particularly see the point of bringing this up repeatedly.

I absolutely agree. Also I think the aryticle should be rewritten. Oistrakh deserves much better.

[edit] error in dates

"In 1936 Oistrakh won second prize at the Wieniawski Competition, losing to the 15-year-old Ginette Neveu." wikipdia

simply not possible if: August 11, 1919 b.Ginette Neveu, 1934 Henryk Wieniawski International Violin Competition, David Oistrakh 2nd / dates are incorrect somewhere. ercord needs to be cross-checked for accuracy see the wikipedia article for Neveu
