Articles for deletion This article was nominated for deletion on 6/3/2006. The result of the discussion was no consensus.

A tag has been placed on the article David Gill, M.D., requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be a biographical account about a person, group of people, or band, but it does not indicate how or why he/she/they is/are notable. If you can indicate why David Gill, M.D. is really notable, I advise you to edit the article promptly, and also put a note on Talk:David Gill, M.D.. Any admin should check for such edits before deleting the article. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Please read our criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 7 under Articles. You might also want to read our general biography criteria. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. To contest the tagging and request that admins should wait a while for you to assert his/her/their notability, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and then immediately add such an assertion. It is also a very good idea to add citations from reliable sources in order that your article will be verifiable. I nominated for speedy delete because political candidates do not meet a single criteria of WP:BIO. -- Malber (talk contribs) 14:59, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

Doesn't the fact that he's a major party candidate in a federal election give him some notability? -- Superdosh 15:28, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Inappropriate tagging

Tagging this for speedy deletion is absurdly out of line. At most, it should be considered by wp:afd. In fact, though, the result there will be a "keep," as we have long had and kept major party candidates for congressional races in the US. This is especially true in a case like this one, where the race is high profile and the campaign is ongoing. I am removing the tag, and I urge anyone with questions to pursue the appropriate course of action (AfD, if you're a hard core opponent of politican pages and going to play elsewhere if you're just being motivated by partisanship). Politicians fall under the first two critera:
  • Political figures holding international, national or statewide/provincewide office or members of a national, state or provincial legislature.
  • Major local political figures who receive significant press coverage.
Dr. Gill doesn't fall under either of these categories. One, he hasn't been elected yet. Two, I did not find any major media attention after a google search. If you feel differently and can find some sources, please use the {{hangon}} template instead of removing the speedy delete tag. Thanks. -- Malber (talk contribs) 19:06, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
I agree that the subject of this article may not meet WP:BIO. However, WP:CSD A7 is for articles that do not assert any kind of notability, such as the ones saying "Joe Bloggs is a taxi driver in New Providence" and nothing else. In case a claim of notability is present but the subject appears not to meet the criteria at WP:BIO, deletion should follow the processes WP:PROD or WP:AFD (the first one does not make much sense in this case). - Liberatore(T) 19:50, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
You're right; A7 doesn't totally apply. But AfD seems a laborious process for an article that is still a stub after two months. Will the subject still be notable if he doesn't win the election? After 10 years? -- Malber (talk contribs) 20:13, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
Moved it to WP:AFD -- Malber (talk contribs) 20:31, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Election Results

Added brief mention of his 2006 loss. Does anyone have a source where he comments on the loss, expresses whether he plans on running again, etc? His website and "blog/private forum" don't seem to have been updated. MrZaiustalk 18:17, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
