DavisWiki

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The site daviswiki.org is about the people, events, universtities, bands, etc. of Davis, California, USA. Whether the information you seek is about local events, advice for classes to take (or not take), cleanest bathrooms in town, or even how a poor student can best pack a to-go buffet box from the local restaurants, if the question is about Davis, Ca, daviswiki probably has the answer. Newcomers to Davis or anyone with a question about life in Davis are often asked by "wikivangelists", "Did you check the wiki?", much in the spirit of RTFM.

It hit the 7000th page mark on April 22th, 2006 and had almost 5000 registered users as of fall, 2006. According to eastwikkers, "...note that there are 122 people on "Davis Wiki" who have made more than 100 edits. How many wikis today can claim numbers like that?"

One of the local items common place on the Davis Wiki are long discussions regarding local politics, local elections, development, controversial city policies, and similar material. This is a bit counter to many wikis that strive for a neutral point of view in all articles. The Davis Wiki has tried to produce balanced articles, while understanding that many topics are inherently point of view dependent.

DavisWiki runs Sycamore, a software package based on python-based Moin Moin.
