Davidson's Mains

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Davidsons Mains is an affluent suburb of Edinburgh, Scotland. It is adjacent to the areas of Barnton, Cramond, Silverknowes, Blackhall and Corbiehill/House O'Hill. It is an upper-middle class neighbourhood which is associated with the EH4 postcode.

Within the village are a large number of shops of many kinds, ranging from cobblers to large supermarkets, as well as food outlets of various kinds. There are also a funeral director's, three churches, two banks, a veterinary surgery, a doctor's surgery and two dental surgeries.

The area is currently served by three bus routes run by Lothian Buses: the 24 which travels via Somerfield between Edinburgh Park and the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh; the 21 which travels to the Gyle Centre via Clermiston and to Leith in the other direction; the 41 which travels from Cramond to Greendykes.

[edit] Schools

It is home to Davidsons Mains Primary School on Corbiehill Road and also Edinburgh's oldest school, Royal High School, which moved here from Calton Hill. (Its original home was later (in the 1990s) one of the contenders for housing the Scottish Parliament).
